This is a wonderful comedy. It's gentle and charming, with some great scenes and I would expect most people to enjoy it hugely. Strongly recommended.

as someone from Edinburgh who lived and went to plenty of the places mentioned in Trainspotting i have to say read the book the book instead which has the full content and message rather than just a comic short hand for what was happening at the time. It made fashionista fools think that taking hard drugs was a nice activity and gave them kudos and brought in too many people too Edinburgh looking for that lifestyle.
I have never managed it all the way through and think it is just an alternative advert for Britain for the naively trendy or people who misguided enough to think that the pathos and dark humor wasn't there to balance the story...great cast though and on the whole well acted but an overrated footnote to late 90's Britain

This film was such a disappointment for me, I really did expect a Great British gangster film that would show London's notorious criminals and how ruthless they were in their prime. Instead I found myself watching two clueless twins who are as intimidating as a pair of goldfish roaming London doing rather little. Their mother of the story is wrongly portrayed as an eccentric feminist and as for the music, well that belongs in a B movie horror. If you are considering buying this film please don't, it's really not worth it I assure you you will be as disappointed as me and be even more annoyed at the potentinal this film had.

If you are interested by the plot synopsis read the book instead (Enduring Love). It has much more depth which cannot be shown on film. The actors' try their best (Bill Nighy, as ever, is great in a sadly quite minor role) but it's not the easiest book to make into a film and, while I'm not usually one for writing negative reviews, I wish they hadn't bothered.

Johnny Depp plays a detective who is addicted to Opium. While spaced out he has dreams that have a habit of coming true.He sees faces and events involved in murders that he later has to investigate. The film tells the story of Jack the Ripper and gives a very believable account of a Royal being involved, along with freemasons and elements within the Police force trying to cover up a scandal that would lead straight back to the Queen. There is some bad language,a touch of nudity,a lot of violence, cleverly handled, but i think the 18 Cert is a little harsh. Both my wife and myself thoroughly enjoyed this film and we highly recommend it.

In the UK, the first episode was shown when I was a child, but it was presented as a film, and not as a series, and the remaining parts were never shown. I loved every bit it. As kids do, I watched it many many times. It was a nice surprise to find out that the film was actually a pilot for 2 seasons of sci-fi.

I've bought both, and enjoy all the episodes. One interesting thing, is the cover. When it arrived, I read the part about being frozen in the arctic, and was sure he was frozen in space for 500 years. Well, I had remembered correctly, and somehow the marketing guys just made an amusing mistake.

I first became intrigued by the Kray twins when I viewed the movie here in the United States. Immediately, I wanted to know more about them as I was more interested in the their story than I was with the acting in the film. Apparently, from the information I was able to gleen from news items and internet websites, Ron and Reg Kray were idolized by people who had no power, no voice in society. I think I remember Ron saying he was good to good people, and a bastard to bad people. The acting in the film was great, Billie Whitelaw being the standout in my opinion. Still, it was a very interesting story for me.
