Alice Green (Meg Ryan) and her husband, Michael (Andy Garcia) are a happily married young couple, until Alice's secret drinking problem is exposed. Alice goes to rehab and when she comes home, she and Michael don't know how to act with one another without the help of alcohol.

This is a really good romantic drama dealing with the terrible ways alcoholism affects a couple and their young children. Oh, my goodness - that Andy Garcia can act and he's quite the dreamboat, too. He's so utterly convincing as the tortured husband that it makes me wonder why I haven't seen him in more leading roles. Meg Ryan, on the other hand, never convinced me she was suffering with guilt or shame or anything; her sunny smile and angelic face were always ... Read More:

A very "obvious" film, with not particularly good acting. It's saccharine enough to make you gag, and insufficiently clever to keep you interested, in my opinion (though I may be alone in that, looking at the other reviews!)

yes the acting is superb but this film is just weird. Maybe that's because I don't "get it" - much like I don't get a chair in a huge room being called "art", or anything that Tracey Emin does. "Weird" can be interesting if it's thought provoking but I found many of the basic premises of this film fundamentally flawed and as a result I just questioned it rather than being interested by it. For example does Jack really think that his very deep and probably deeply disturbed daughter Rose is going to get along with her new "housemates"? It's obvious that she's not although it provides some interesting viewing. There are some nice relationships in the story but these relationships just give us breathing space given the individual characters are so strange.

I dont really enjoy whoopi goldbergs comedy films i have to say but in this as in "the colour purple" she is magnificent. Of course it helps that the writing is above top drawer and that the whole film is beautifully put together. The film opens with the statement "this is a true story". It tells the story of the murder of a black civil rights leader in mississippi by an extreeme right wing bigot played brilliantly by james woods who after two mistrials is not convicted. Alec Baldwin plays a lawyer who looks into the case many years later and awakens to the prejudice that he has taken for granted his whole life we follow his gradual realisation that if he doesnt take a stand nothing will change. This is the kind of film making that sets a standard, this is what ... Read More:

Well, what can I say, this film was 'random' to say the least. The romance between Harrison Ford and Kristen Scott Thomas seemed to just come out of the blue. There really didn't seem to be much of a build up to it...perhaps that was a good thing because I probably couldn't bear to watch an extra half hour of the film! I know Ford plays a cop in the film, but he must be pretty amazing to figure out in a ridiculously short amount of time that his wife had been having an affair, to figure out who she was having it with and to figure out the wife of the guy with whom Ford's wife was playing away with (that make any sense?) Anyway, I know its a film and I know we all expect plane crashes, discoveries of infidelity, blossoming romances and shootings to happen within ... Read More:

This was one of your average unexpected twist films. It folllows Kevin Costner with his one and only facial expression of slight upset while he tries to find out what happened to his dead wife and whther or not her ghost is haunting him. Its a good story but the ending is predictable, nice though. So a good film, good entertainment but not one to watch if you want to be kept in great suspense and not thought provoking.
