A battered old army ambulance is the last chance for five allied warriers after the fall of Tobruk. Two nurses, one of whom is killed during the evacuation when the wagon is strafed by a German plane, a sergeant major from the regular army, a South African captain who is picked up on the outskirts of town, all led by an English captain played by John Mills, who is somewhat fond of the odd tipple or two. Although there are one or two run ins with the Germans, the main enemy is the desert. The direct route to safety along the coast has been cut off, forcing them into the depression where they encounter quicksand and giant sand dunes, plus the constant extremes of daytime heat and bitter cold nights.

Not really a war film in the ... Read More:

I originally had no intentions of watching this film let alone buying it, but then I got curious, so I picked it up for a couple of pounds.

I'm very pleased that I did, I think this gives a very good account of what happened or what may have happened in the aftermath of the death of Princess Diana.

There are excellent portrayals of The Queen (Dame Helen Mirren), Prince Phillip (James Cromwell) and Tony Blair (Michael Sheen), strangely enough there is very little screen time given to Prince Charles, which I found a little strange.

I was never a great fan of Princess Diana, nor for that matter Tony Blair, although it does not harp on about how "wonderful" Princess Diana was, it does grind on me a bit how much they ... Read More:

Frustraited office clerk Antony Hancock gives it all up and moves to Paris to follow his dream of becoming an artist. Here he hobnobs with the local art fraturnity who mistakes his total artisic inability and nievety for artistic genius. Off this reputation his name becomes known in the big money art world....who turn up mistaking his flat mates (who returned to england leaving all his work to him) work for his. The plot thickens as he blags his way to the top, only to come down to earth when being found out....A very funny film that highlights the pretentious world of the artist and those who claim to know about it. Brilliant!

I have followed this series, and finished Season 3 and had to look to Australia for Season 4. Luckily, I have a multi-regional DVD player. I have bought a lot of English TV series from Amazon, and this has a rightful place in my favorites. It's light, funny, and the script and acting superb. Great watching and a sort of 'take me away' feel to it.

I think the giveaway is who the director is.....Mr Shoot em up.

Alan Ayckbourn is the UK's most performed living playwright. His plays stand the test of time as is proved by the revival of THE NORMAN CONQUESTS. Apparently only William Shakespeare's plays are performed more often.

Therefore it is a great shame that one of this truly great writer's most acclaimed works is mauled to death in this extremely poor film. The plot is about an amateur stage production. It is somewhat of any irony that the film is amateur in its execution, performances, direction and even cinematography. Most definitely the worst film both Anthony Hopkins and Jeremy Irons have ever performed in. From this outing it is hard to believe that they are two of their ... Read More:

i managed to squeeze this film into a couple of hours gap i had at university and how glad i was. At my uni there is a seperate dvd section for people to watch films in separate film booths with headphones on. This has been my sanctuary for three years and i have ploughed my way through many brilliant and absurd films assembled clumsily on the shelves that i would never normally look at. This film also came into this category. I stumbled across it by chance and was mesmerised by the clever plot that was being explained on the back of the box. an hour and a half later i was sitting speechless in my chair, amazed by what i had just seem. This film incorporates dark drama, social issues and is filmed in black and white with 2 brilliant, classic actors, what more could ... Read More:

I don't really recall seeing this when it was on ITV, though my sisters do. So I got it the other day and just finished the series, I thought it was a very well written story with some funny and some serious moments. The charartes are colourful, each one have a hidden secret that comes out in the final epsoide which are shocking but gives it a good enough ending to come for the second season which I can't wait. A very good TV series, highly recommended.
