I enjoyed this DVD of Mary Wesley's Camomile Lawn very much more than the book, presumably greatly to the credit of its Director Peter Hall but also to the strong cast. All are good but of particular note are Felicity Kendall who gives a tremendous performance, the eye-pleasing Jennifer Ehle whether clothed or not, her sensible counterpart Tara Fitzgerald, similarly eye-pleasing but in a quieter way, and Rebecca Hall as the juvenile star. And of course there is the coast of Cornwall - contrasting with scenes of London in the blitz with a memorable scene of Tara and Rebecca on the phone to Cornwall from under a table while near-hit bombs (and the ceiling) were falling. Its the sort of film that lives with you for days after the viewing and which ... Read More:

It was an earlier work of Toby Stephens and I did not expect to be that good but it take me completely by suprise. Only a month ago I had seen Jane Eyre and it had converted me to be a dvd collector especially Toby`s work. There were some hit and some misses so I had not my hopes high, but the film was very good, all the performances were brilliant and both thedirection and production were of very high. I recommend to any one who likes a good drama.

This film faithfully follows the story of Dodie Smith's beautiful and sometimes painful novel, but cannot capture its magic or the lyrical narrative which is so important (and what is really successful) about the novel. Read the book first, then enjoy this film for the pictures!

A pleasant, unusual comedy. Supposedly based on a real story (but probably not) and set in 1917, it tells the story of two English cartographers (Hugh Grant and Ian McNeice) who arrive in a Welsh village in order to take the measure of the nearby mountain, considered the pride of the locals. According to the height (more specifically, if it is higher than 1,000 feet), it will be determined whether it is indeed a mountain or it is just a hill. When the first measure turns out that it is just a few feet under the 1,000 mark, the anxious villagers will take action. In order to makes sure that it is recorded as a mountain, they will transport dirt and soil from the fields, and to the peak, bucket by bucket. At the same time, they will do everything to prevent the two ... Read More:

This is one of the best War Movies in later days and shines where others have failed. It goes a long way to show that a big budget does not always produce the best results. A good story is always better.

In the main it is a story of Czech airmen, once driven out of their home they end up flying for the RAF. It has plenty of human interest and is well told on many levels, there is humor to be found and great sadness. There is also a love story and a triangle but this time it is very well done. It is like watching how horribly Pearl Harbor failed.

The Spitfires are wonderful to watch and there is great attention to detail, like falling cartridges from the planes.

I recommend it on every level.

I'd hoped that this version of the Elizabeth story was going to be a "hidden gem". Unfortunately, it was not. Although there were undoubtedly a few interesting historical details included (together with some terrible moments of "poetic license"), on the whole, it was a very lame and out of date piece, with a lead actress who did not grow during her performance, and who was, in my opinion, quite clearly not up to the task of playing this great part.

A major, MAJOR criticism must be made about the make up. While some characters aged hardly at all, others aged at a ridiculous pace, their faces so puffed out with latex that it made them look like extras in a terrible Star Trek episode from 20 years ago. Such pathetic make up should not be shown on TV today. It was an insult. ... Read More:

This is one of those films that was made enjoyable by the quality of the acting. The story is basically about a reserved english vicar and his wife who are made more sexually adventurous by some models who work for an artist in the Australian countryside.A film with a lot of nudity in it but the naked bodies are always used to tell the story rather than make it appear shocking or daring. If you've seen Hugh Grant in Four Weddings and a funeral - the production he is most famous for - you'll see in this movie that he really is a rather good actor and can do the serious stuff too.And watch out for a fine acting performance from Elle Macpherson who shows she is more than just the most attractive tall woman in the world!

It was great to see James Fox , Joanna Lumley , David Walliams , Jamie Theakston and Tara Fitzgerald playing their parts so well . It was a very lavish & stunning piece of work - the bumbling , comic coppers take the edge off of an otherwise dark storyline . The real treat of course is Ian Richardson and one had to laugh at Miss Marple declining a lemonade and wanting a ginger wine ( plus a bit of whisky ! ) - what would Joan Hickson say !?! Miss McKewan plays the part like your favourite aunt who is unshockable and full of life . Fans of Joan Hickson might lament the lesbian twist at the end but as some of Agatha Christies novels had a gay/lesbian subtext ( like Five Little Pigs , Cards On The Table & A Murder Is Announced not to mention The Moving Finger ) you have to wonder whether ...
