This is a roadtrip film in the truest sense of the word. Three drag queens are driving across the Australian desert in a bus, to a gig in Alice Springs. All are gay - but some more `gay' than others. Mitzi is the most macho of three, with a secret wife and an even more secret child, Felicia is young, camp, and outrageous. And Bernadette? She's the straight laced ex-famous show-girl.

No doubt it has been said before, but this is a voyage of discovery for our three camp friends. The dynamic between them provides the energy for the film. With Felicia rubbing Bernadette up the wrong way, and Mitzi struggling with his inner demons - you can't help but watch to see what happens.

Along the journey they meet several people, some ... Read More:

Sad to hear that this one is still the same old shocking transfer of a really great and beautifully (Nic Roeg) filmed movie. To use the title of another Julie Christie/Nic Roeg work "Don't Look Now".
Why?
I have a notification from Amazon.com (US) that there is a NEW release due on January 27th 2009 (search it out). If there's any justice in filmdom - THAT one will be the remastered version we've all been longing and waiting for. Thanks to the previous two reviewers!!! And thanks Amazon UK for not automatically appending 57 previous unrelated reviews (of VHS tapes et al) to this release.

DVD : Superman Movies Collection [4-Discs]
Firstly I must say that although I found the Superman films were always great to watch when I was a kid, I have personally gotten a bit bored with the franchise now. However I still cherish the first few films for what they were.

I bought this boxset just over a year ago because I thought that a) it would not only give me the first two films but the third and fourth ones as well and b) I mistook the Christopher Reeve Collection for this one so then I thought it would give me the deleted scenes of Supes 4 that had been locked away in the vaults of Warner Bros for that long time. Sadly I was wrong and ended up with the finished product and theatrical trailer for it only. However I was glad at the time to get Supes 3 for myself where he turns evil ... Read More:

The script is cleverly written and there are scenes which will make you cry, make you laugh, make you shiver with excitement, and make you hate certain characters. These superbly written scenes are delivered by a perfect cast, with exceptional acting from Emilio Estevez and Lou Diamond Phillips in particular. The film focuses on the Lincoln County War, paying particular attention to the part played by the Regulators in this war. The Regulators and the few people on their side are shown in a positive light, and other parties involved are shown in a negative light. I believe this film is an accurate representation of the war and of those involved. I strongly recommend this outstanding film to everyone, whatever your interests, this film is a must see. Get Smart is good fun. It never takes itself too seriously and has a good mix of action and comedy. There are some great setpieces, a few fantastic lines and the cast is very impressive. There's also a great bit during a symphony concert that had me in fits of laughter.

Great light entertainment.

DVD : Poor Cow
"Poor Cow" is my favourite Ken Loach film. In fact, it is my favourite film of all time. I only discovered it 2 years ago and it has a very personal connection for me. I have since read the novel that inspired it and can state that it is a very honest and faithful dramatisation of Nell Dunn's text. It is a film about a side of London life to which many will be oblivious, and, of course, many will not.

Carol White is superb as Joy, whose first name is not as ironic as it may seem. Her life may well be a vortex of poverty, squalor and unhappiness, but White (through her acting) and Loach (through his direction) portray the character with compassion and strength as someone who is sassy and fun. This same compassion shows through in all the other characters too. ... Read More:

Jennifer Garner reprises and expands her role from Daredevil as as assassin for hire who becomes protector of a girl (with a secret) and her father. It's better than I was expecting from it's largely risible reviews. In fact, I was pretty much entertained throughout. It looks good and doesn't outstay it's welcome but the best thing about it is Jennifer Garner, who can kick my ass any day. I'm an Alias fan and thought 13 Going On 30 was way underrated, so I shouldn't have been suprised that her presence would elevate this film in my eyes. Without her it would have been 2/5, but with her it's a 3.

superman the movie comes to dvd. one of the biggest movies of the 70's, this brought the dc comics character to the big screen. It runs for over two hours, taking most of the films first half to tell superman's origin story, and then once the character is established he has to deal with a plot from criminal genius lex luthor.

Coming back to this, which I hadn't seen in a while, I was instantly struck by the superb jerry goldsmith score. the title music really goes with the character. and christopher reeve who took the lead - an unknown at the time - was superb, making his clark kent and superman two totally separate characters. margot kidder is an excellent lois lane, feisty and beautiful. gene hackman is pretty good as lex luthor although he's not really the strongest ...
