- Golden Child? Great
- Dr Doolittle(s)? No probs
- Daddy Day Care? Good
- Nutty Professor(s)? Indeed
- 48 Hours and BHills Cop aren't my cup-of-tea but are classic Murphy
- NORBIT is far and away the closest to 'Donkey' that Eddie Murphy has come to (and that says something considering he voiced 'Donkey' in the Shrek films - which were great!)
If you like Eddie Murphy and are wondering whether to watch Norbit - don't! - watch COMING TO AMERICA and watch it again and again - just do not watch Norbit! I laughed once, maybe twice (whence 2 stars instead of 1 - I don't hate it but I definately don't like it!), but that was at the situation, not at the characters: Norbit is a muppet (actually, no, that's degrading ... This plays like a third of the plot of L.A. Confidential - not surprising when you realise that it's co-written by James Ellroy. Tough, but tender, dumb cop is manipulated by senior officers in the LAPD for their own ends. Everyone is cynical, everyone is corrupt, everyone is violent, to the point where you begin to wonder how the LAPD can even function anymore. And yet this modern look at crime and punishment is so old fashioned. We've seen it all before in films like The French Connection only more interestingly done. At the end I half expected someone to tell Keanu Reeves "It's Chinatown, Jake.". Violent, action-packed, reasonably acted, competently directed and strangely boring. Reeves compares badly to Denzil Washington's similar turn in the superior ... Read More:

It's Enter the Dragon + Dragon the Bruce Lee Story done with ping pong.
It's OK, plenty of in jokes to those who know the sorce material. Worth a rewatch maybe but it's not going to be in your top 5 comedies.

Get Smart is good fun. It never takes itself too seriously and has a good mix of action and comedy. There are some great setpieces, a few fantastic lines and the cast is very impressive. There's also a great bit during a symphony concert that had me in fits of laughter.

Great light entertainment.

This movie was really more of a remake of Big Mamma's House. It didn't really seem to have any confidence in the story line. When I bought it I was hoping it would be something like Scary Movie but really it was a stupid movie which really gave you the impression sometimes that these FBI agents are actually gay apart for the end part where there is loads of kissing between them and girls. Overall this was an ok movie. 2 out of 5.
