"Oh, hard cheese, old chap!"

School for Scoundrels, that cheery, malicious comedy of one-upmanship, was based on Stephen Potter's classic of underhanded winning, Gamesmanship - Or How To Win Without Really Cheating, and its follow-up, Lifemanship. (Potter wrote several others, too.) What is lifemanship? "Well, gentlemen," says the avuncular head of school played by Alastair Sim to a new class, "lifemanship is the science of being one up on your opponents at all times. It's the art of making him feel that somewhere, some how, he's become less that you. He who is not one up, is one down."

Getting ready to sign up for the courses is Henry Palfrey (Ian Carmichael), so nice, so pleasant, so helpful that he usually finds ... Read More:

this film isn't exactly what i would call a real classic. sure, it has all the usual actors but it doen't any humourous moments, like some of the other films in the series. The ending is just plain embarissing. it made me cringe.
watch this if you a fan.
My son adores this film, i haven't discovered why yet but i've been watching him very closely and i think that some of the scenes are a little to saturating for him to handle.

carry on matron is a 1972 classic with a great cast and indeed a great story all set in the familiar territory of the hospital,it is easier to say which member of the legends isnt in this as so many are and the only exception of the legends would be peter butterworth and jim dale and this is also one of the few movies to feature the three leading ladies of joan sims, hattie jeacques and babs windsor, they were also in carry on abroad
for thoise who wish to know,i think they were in one or two more as well.
The story centres on criminal mastermind sid james who believes his next fortune lies in a maternity hospital, but how can he get access to what he is looking for,he does it by enlisting the help of his son cyril, played by kenneth cope, who does a good job,as ... Read More:

A fantastic film, very well acted and the rape scene is one I shall never forget, it just made me cringe and that probably meant how realistic it actually looked! It is said that Jodie Foster actually passed out when filming that scene and I'm sure it was very difficult for the male actors to play their parts, but nevertheless an important film showing just how horrific these acts are.
Jodie Foster was amazing in it and well deserved her oscar!

This was the excellent template used for the more famous and magnificent Theatre of Blood. All the elements are the same as this film's: The master of his profession who's been terribly wronged by lesser fools, now deranged by the injustice, takes diabolical revenge on them; he designs suitably insane deaths for each of them based upon a theme; he is aided by his insanely loyal daughter to achieve his aim. Even Theatre of Blood's use of strange zombie like henchmen is taken from this film. Technically this film is let down by slack directing, rather dull dialogue for the type of film it is, and in comparison to Theatre of Blood, a cast of 2nd tier character actors who do not engage you as much as they should. Also, its sudden ending without an obvious resolution would definitely have ... Read More:

Terry Scott and June Whitfield appeared in two sitcoms using their own Christian names, first as the Fletchers in “Happy Ever After” 1974/78 followed immediately by “Terry and June” 1979/1987, then it was axed in 1988, by which time Terry was suffering from cancer and creeping paralysis.

My recollections of the series are from the later seasons when the show had really settled down into one of the great comic sitcoms, this is very much a first season, with three really good episodes and the remaining three indifferent.

Terry Scott and June Whitfield became so identified in the public mind with their on screen characters that when they appeared in public together people regularly mistook them as being married in real life.

Whilst I agree with the previous user's comments to a certain extent (no excue for sloppiness when researching series information for a DVD) - I cannot allow this to carry a 1-star rating.

I can't let anything jeopardise the all-important series 9, which is the only series I actually rememeber and have been waiting for it for about 4 years!!!
