Unfortunately I don't. I was hoping for a sophisticated French comedy but I hated this film. I truly didn't laugh once - and I couldn't even use it to improve my French because of the English subtitles. Not a single likeable character and an execrable farcical situation, but then I suppose that was the idea.

Daniel Auteuil is Pignon, a man who's considered to be boring, straight laced, and rather uninteresting. When Santini (Gérard Depardieu) and his friends suggest Pignon should be sacked - Pignon decides to end it all. It's only because of a new found friend he finds a way to fool the masses at the condom factory and keep his job.

This isn't as funny as Le Diner De Cons nor Tais-Toi; but they're classics and it's hard to follow such a great act, but it's a very good film, Gérard is very funny as macho man Felix, and the welcome return of Thierry Lhermitte, one of Felix's friends. I also enjoyed the roles played by his secretaries: Michèle Laroque (Madame Bertrand) and Alexandra Vandernoot (Christine), as they had some great ... Read More:

On break for summer, friends Brad, (Vince Vieluf) Chris, (Phil Buckman) and Andy (Tom Everett Scott) are having fun as they travel Europe looking for the next big stunt to commit. Coming up on Paris, Andy decides to pull the ultimate stunt: bungy jump off the Eiffel Tower. As he prepares for the jump, he inadvertently saves a woman, Serafine (Julie Delpy) from killing herself, but ends up severely injuring himself. He wakes up in a hospital and desperately wants to find her again. He sends Brad and Chris out to find her and they return with her address. After begging, they go out on a date and she ends up having to save him from several barflies. Serafine runs away in shame, but Andy goes after her and runs into the mysterious Claude, (Pierre ... This is a film based on a book - something James Ivory the director has done in the past but to better effect than he does here.Visually the film is sumptuous to look at and if you are a fan of painting and fashion and the sights and sounds of Paris I would recommend it to you, but if you are a fan of films that have action or an interesting and intriguing storyline then Le Divorce is not likely to please you.
And I would point Merchant-Ivory fans towards any of their other productions.

DVD : And Now Ladies And Gentlemen
Jeremy Irons is a jewel thief (apparently specializing in Bulgari) who uses clever hoaxes rather than outright force to steal or rob from the prestige shops in which he specializes. While sailing round the world from France he suffers from a problem with his brain. Meanwhile...a singer in France has a contract in Morocco and suffers a similar ailment. They meet in Fez, but then an Italian contessa has her very valuables jewels stolen by a cat burglar....

A watchable film, despite the extreme unlikelihood of a real thief being able to get away with jewel heists in Irons' manner! The ending is slightly ambiguous but not unsatisfying. The locations are great, the acting ditto.

Sorry. Can't help it. Just don't like this one. It's silly and vaguely unpleasant - but not in the way that a black comedy could be. The actors hold their reputable heads above water - just - but there are better European films than this one. Save your money.

The subject matter and star cast raised expectations but this is so poor it's embarrassing. There are so many inaccuracies in this film it quickly becomes irritating. A few examples: the story is set in occupied France, yet everyone drives English cars with the steering wheel on the other side. Young Thomas' mother is portrayed as a woman tough as nails, capable of carrying out a highly risky operation without batting an eyelid, teaching her son how to follow in her footsteps and not letting emotions get in the way of what needs to be done. Yet a few scenes later we see her, crumpled, blubbering down the phone, pleading Thomas' father (who has no role in their lives and no idea where they're at, so is hardly the reliable person to call upon) to save his ...
