I must admit, I much preferred John Russo's book Return of the Living Dead (the 1985 tie-in, not the original 1979 novel) to Dan O'Bannon's movie. Whilst I admit it was fun, I found some of the acting a little too annoying and the punk soundtrack was inappropriate in places. Now no doubt that comment has alienated a lot of readers, as many consider that one of the best zombie movies of all time (or certainly one of the funniest). But I must go out on a limb here and state that I found Return of the Living Dead 2 far more entertaining! The pace is tighter and the jokes are better executed (no pun intended). My only real flaw with it is, just like with the original, both James Karen and Thom Mathews are criminally underused, both reduced ... Read More:

DVD : Return Of The Living Dead [1985]
While working in a top secret medical supply center, Frank (James Karen) and Freddy (Thom Matthews) happen upon a container carrying a chemical called trioxin, which raises the dead. They accidentally release the chemical, causing the cadavers to come to life. Their boss Burt (Clu Gulager) suggest they take the body to the cemetery across the street, where a group of punks are having a party until Freddy gets off work. As the body is being cremated, the gases are released and bring the dead bodies to life in the cemetery. The zombies upset the party by the punks, infecting the leader, Scuz (Brian Peck). Trash (Linnea Quigley) and Chuck (John Philbin) are soon infected. Tina, (Beverly Randolph) Freddy's girlfriend, Spider, (Miguel A. Nunez Jr.) and ... Read More:

After Friday The 13th Part V A New Beginning [1985], this once-proud franchise was in dire need of an even newer beginning, and writer/director Tom McLoughlin really came through, basically, as far as I'm concerned, saving the series. Not only do we get the real Jason back, he's bigger and badder than ever. We also return to Camp Crystal Lake (now renamed Forest Green in a rather transparent attempt to excise the whole Jason "legend" from the area), where we not only have camp counselors but - for the first and only time in the series - actual campers. Naturally, there's no way to resurrect Jason without resorting to some kind of hokey miracle - after all, the dude's been rotting in his grave for several years now. Apart from that, though, the script is ... Read More:

I fully expected to find this film directed by Alan Smithee or some such pseudonym. However, the director Albert Pyun has such credits as 'Brainsmasher: A Love Story' and 'Alien from L.A.' on his curriculum vitae, so (despite the almost-tolerable film such as 'Cyborg') I thought I might have stumbled upon the reincarnation of Ed Wood. However, I know 'Plan 9 from Outer Space'; I've seen 'Plan 9 from Outer Space'. This film is no 'Plan 9 from Outer Space'.

This is one of those low-budget, martial arts films designed to capitalise on the success of earlier glories. There was a successful film, entitled 'Kickboxer', which starred Jean-Claude van Damme (and not directed by Pyun). Van Damme steered clear of the sequels to make other films (not all successful; his ... Read More:

I had this on VHS for years and it got plenty of play. Sure it'll never be the greatest movie of all time but you know what, it does exactly what it says on the tin.

Its a bit hammy in places and some of the effects look horribly old (Harryhausen eat your heart out!) but bottom line - I have a big soft spot for Nemesis and so have many of the people ive shown it too.

I wouldnt recommend coughing up more than 15 quid for the DVD but if you have a passing cyberpunk interest (Hell, if you liked Syndicate the game, there more than a few references or perhaps nods - what came first?) then Ollie and his auto-pump action shotgun (cool as ever) will entertain...... f*cking humans...

This surprisingly stunning movie was really just something I rented, because I had seen everything else. I needed to watch a good movie, and not the commercial junk with overated computer graphics. Then I saw this one. They only had one copy of this movie in the store, so I thought that this would have to be a low-budget movie. "Why the heck not" I said to myself, and picked it up.
I've never regreted that choice in all my life.

What struck me, was an action movie with a poetic heart. In all the excellent shooting, there is an "in between the lines" essence of the beauty of life, portrayed differently in the many characters in the movie. Good acting by some, great acting by most. Ice-T does a good job playing the "bad guy", and I'm tempted to say that this is one of Christopher ... Read More:
