This is one of the best films I've seen in ages - funny, touching and close to the book. It leaps from past to present, story to real life easily and effectively, and ties up Kissin' Kate Barlow, Madame Zerone and the Warden well, mixing up the stories as seamlessly as the book does. It is a beautiful adaption of the book - the screenplay was written by Louis Sachar himself, which means that it's been done exactly as he meant it to be. Writing is making a film in your head, and this is exactly the kind of film he was writing.

I've seen this movie several times now and I'm still fascinated by it - I'm no particular fan of George Clooney or the Coen brothers or Bluegrass music (or even of Homer), but this movie is so cleverly constructed and well acted, with multiple threads that hang and re-cross throughout the story, that each time I watch I see a connection I missed in previous viewings. Reading the other reviews I guess I must be the only ageing Blues fan out here - but Robert Johnson must be up there (sorry, down there) somewhere, smiling if he's seen it.

I should have read more of the reviews on here before buying this... Trust me, I'm not the sort of person who needs to see lots of tanks exploding to enjoy a film; I can enjoy a "thoughtful" film as much as the next person. But it needs to be watchable; it needs to have a story that draws you in. This is just a sprawling, self-indulgent mess. Avoid.

First of all I'm a huge fan of Jennifer Aniston and personally thought she was great in this movie. It was a bit weird trying to adjust to her not being Rachel Green, but she's a great actress and it didn't take long.

The film itself, despite being in the Comedy section and having 'Seriously Funny' on the DVD cover contains suprising few laughs. It it quite a serious film and it's certainly not the sort of comedy i was expecting, but when it's funny, it's funny! Look out in particular for Cheryl, Justines co-worker who comes out with some great lines. Also Gwen, the always happy, never angry other co-worker of Justines. Even though she's only in it for 30 minutes she's a great character and it's truly upsetting what becomes of her.

"The Darwin Awards" attempts to be funny and should be commended for the effort that it puts in. That, however, only makes the fact that it is only intermittently funny throughout all the more painful. In fact, there was only a single scene that succeeded in making me laugh anywhere near hysterically. The rest is somewhat bland, not making the most of its original premise and instead going the route of slapstick humour as opposed to anything that would raise it above most of today's abysmal comedies. "The Darwin Awards" is every bit a mediocre motion picture.

Michael Burrows (Joseph Fiennes) is a recently unemployes police personality profiler obsessed with the Darwin Awards of the title -- awards given out for the most ridiculously stupid ... Read More:

Its 1950's America and an alien weapon has turned people into zombies, enter a company with the eminently sensible idea of turning the zombies into a cheap labour force by using a collar that controls them.
The idea for this film of zombies turned into slaves isn't a new one (at least for books its been done before) but I dont recall ever seeing it in a film, as such 'Fido' comes as a pleasant surprise. It mocks many things including science fiction and 50's america/modern day america whilst being a very silly and funny film as well (its like 'Lassie' meets 'Dawn of the dead').

Theres a lot of great performances here from everyone involved, as the reviewer before me states Carrie Anne Moss was brilliant and Billy Connelly was superb (even ... Read More:

'The Moguls' (or 'The Amateurs' as it's known in America) was released in the UK without fanfare, or from what I could gather, any promotion at all. Which is shame considering the quality of the film.

The plot is simple enough; Andy Sargentee (Jeff Bridges) is always on the look out for ways to make a quick buck. It's not long before he realises that nothing sells better than sex, so he convinces his close friends to help him make an amateur porn movie.

It's hard to believe that a film about making a porno could turn out to be the sweetest and most touching film about friendship i've ever seen, but it really is. There is some strong language, but despite the subject matter, virtually no nudity. The supporting cast is nothing short of incredible, ... Read More:
