Ok, another spin-off series. expected it to be just ok. In fact i found it one of the best spin-offs I have ever watched. great new characters as well as Addison who we all hated at first but grew to love. Good and different new story lines. And best of all, a new love interest for Addison. Cant wait for season 2

DVD : Basic [2003]
Panama after the Reagan's military intervention. The American armed forces are trying to keep the main passage of south American drug up north to the US under control. But that does not mean it is really what happens. In fact drug is flowing abundantly but not freely. Things have to be organized in the hands of the US citizens here, at least some of them, under a uniform or not. In one of the military special, very special units the sergeant discovers the truth and wants to stop it when on a mission. He will end up dead and several other members too, but the transportation of the drug out of the jungle and onto a plane to the US, along with one of the bodies will nearly succeed, though it will fail because the special agent and the female captain ... This is great movie, a great comedy and much more. This is not just another Whoopi Goldberg comedy but a tale of survival when the chips are down. The lacing of hard life lessons with humour makes this a must see by everyone who not only loves comedies but meaningful movies. To have the courage to stand up for yourself, face being knifed in the back, quit your job and build up a firm from nothing in a finance world of wall street dominated by men and even resort to inventing a fictitious male partner to stay in the game makes the Character played by WHOOOPI not only gutsy but a survivor. I found this story line riveting and filled with courage and valuable life lessons. I recommend it not just for the great comedy but also for the depth and meaning ... Read More:

DVD : Stephen King's Storm of the Century [1999] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
This movie takes place in a small town isolated on an Island off Maine. And as the title suggest, it is hit by the worse storm ever. Snow so thick it is hard to see through and wind so strong that the waves of the ocean start to claim buildings. This alone would make for an exciting adventure movie. But of course King gives us more. A truly supernatural villain comes to town and knows everyone secrets. He starts to kill them off and keeps asking to be given `what he wants." As we watch the movie we are trying to figure out what he wants...and also wondering why the villagers do not give it to them.

The movie is suspenseful. And the acting is great. Everyone in this movie acts well, including the children. Of course the best is Colm Feore ... Read More:

DVD : Diner [1982] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I have a lot of affection for this movie, not least because I was born and raised in Baltimore - although I was slightly younger in 1959 and lived on the other side of town. Baltimore is as much a character as any of the actors and the film lovingly recreates the city as I remember it.

Diner is about a bunch of guys who are never happier than when hanging out at the wonderfully nostalgic diner of the title. The emphasis is on atmosphere and character more than plot, although there are several memorable set pieces - most enjoyably in the cinema when Mickey Rourke's date finds a surprise in the popcorn.

The cast - the heart and soul of the film - are universally strong, except for Kevin Bacon's period lapses of overacting. The dialogue seems natural ... Read More:

DVD : The Outsider [2002] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Surprisingly good Romantic Western made for cable TV.
A widowed Christian woman,Rebecca Yoder (Naomi Watts)takes in a wounded drifter and nurses him back to health, little knowing that he is notorious gunfighter Johnny Gault (Timothy Daly). Great subtle performances from the beautiful Naomi Watts and Tim Daly (an actor too long underrated). Story, direction, cinematography and score, beautifully handled.
DVD is excellent quality,Picture format is 4:3, extras include filmographies of principal players and an interview with actor Tim Daly.
For those who appreciate a romance or good western, in all a great purchase.

DVD : Superman: Brainiac Attacks [2006] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
This production parades itself as being part of the WB Superman: The Animated Series universe by using the same logo, character designs, and some of the same voice talent... But this film is far from it.

I would compare this more to the Superfriends era type storytelling, and i like Superfriends much better. The character of Lex Luthor is goofy and comical - not the cold, calculating s.o.b that we've all come to expect from S:TAS.

There is not much story here. Brainiac arrives, and mayhem ensues. Superman has to stop him, and that's pretty much it. It's a product rather than a movie, i think, produce purely to capitalize on the release of Superman Returns... It could've been really good, but it's just not.

The younger audience will ... Read More:
