DVD : Hogfather (2-Disc Edition) [2006]
I absolutely love anything and everything pertaining to discworld; I have 2 characters on the Discworld online game, one of which is a newbie helper. I've listened to every single one of the discworld books at least twice, and preordered the Colour of Magic DVD the very second I possibly could. With all that being said, I simply had to get my hands on this movie as soon as I heard it existed. Fortunately, I have a region free DVD player, so I ended up purchasing this region 2 2 disc edition of Hogfather. I can't say enough about how much I love
this movie. It remains extremely faithful to the book; in a lot of cases, dialogue is word for word out of the book, something which, at least in my humble opinion, is all to rare in book to movie ... Read More:

This is a truly great film, it really involves the viewer and tells a great story about an unjustly convicted man and his struggles in jail. It's got a lot of very moving moments and has a very human story at the centre.

I'd recommend this to anyone as a must see film, and it has enough in it to make it worth watching several times. An excellent film.

This is the brilliant film about being the best pilots, silly nicknames, and cheesy one liners! ( I feel the need, the need, for speed!) Brillant 'dog fighting' action scenes, and a great soundtrack, Not to be missed!

This movie is just great, fantastic acting from both Freeman and Robbins. The transfer to high definition isn't the best, but it is fantastic considering this film is now nearly 15 years old, the grayness and dullness of Shawshank State Prison is seen like live I've seen it before, the dark colors are really clear, however seeing how they didn't have HD cameras back then some of the scenes can look a bit blurry and unclear but most of the time its not very noticeable.

7/10 for audio - Good, but i think it could've been better

8/10 for picture - regarding the films age is good but could be better

9/10 the movie it-self - great, entertaining, with twists and turns
but at times can feel a ... Read More:

Fantastic film. Jack Black's best so far. I never knew he could sing! The last scene is one of the best scenes in comedy. The competition with the devil was great and so funny. The lyrics in the songs are great. Meat loaf should stop acting though!

Dakota Fanning what a performance. Tom Cruise played a great father to her and the two worked together well. Tom should stick to action films as they are much better than his comedy ones. This film is very clever as it appeals to the science fiction fan and a general film watcher. there are clever sci fi bits however the CGI is also good and its a general feel good film. much better than independence day!

Now this film did take me a while to warm up to. The first two times I tried to watch it I was rather bored, though whether this is because I'm a woman, I'm not entirely sure. However the third time I watched it all the way through, and it honestly blew my mind. Cusack's performance's in movies are generally underrated, but here he generates utter brilliance, so much so that he kind of ruined the book for me, as I kept hearing his American voice for an English character.

OK it's stylish, OK it's got a cracking cast and it's well acted, but this is simply the most boring film I have ever seen, nothing happens - honestly - nothing, there is just no coherent story line to link it all together and the entire 3 hours+ (and trust me, it felt longer) was like a series of completley unrelated, depressing and, ultimately, pointless vignettes.

This is Altman at his self-obsessed, self-indulgent worst. Avoid it, unless you've got far to much time on your hands and want to be made thoroughly depressed, confused and miserable.

And the music score has got to much jazz on it as well.

This is one of those films that is so weird you either hate it or love it. When I first watched this I thought it was a truly awful film. However, after a few beers this film is actually quite entertaining...If you want a film that is daft, simple to follow and has a true 80s feel, either buy a cheap copy (or better still rent) this film, kick back and spend an evening sniggering on the sofa. It is a bad film in a typically 80s-outrageous-hair-and-daft-outfits way. Yes, it's so terrible it is worth watching - as long as you don't expect anything more than slightly cheesey entertainment. To it's credit, it has got a pretty cool front cover!

This boxset is essential for collectors, being the only way to get a proper widescreen version of the Coen Brothers' debut Blood Simple - in the UK, at least. It also features the astounding and enigmatic Barton Fink, the (probably overrated) Raymond Chandler-inspired cult hit The Big Lebowski and the (probably underrated) screwball comedy throwback The Hudsucker Proxy.

If you haven't seen the films before, be warned that the animated DVD menus of Barton Fink and Hudsucker Proxy contain spoilers. You may want to just shut your eyes and press "Enter" repeatedly until you hear the Universal tune.
