It's difficult to imagine any dramatisation of 'Bleak House' being better done. The cast is uniformly excellent and the adaptation successfully captures the 'page-turner' quality of the book. Not to be missed.

The nineteen seventies was a great time for series set between the wars in the North of England. When the Boat Comes In, Sam and The Stars Look Down spring to mind. Worthy as they may have been, and When the Boat Come Comes In would get my vote as the best British Tv series ever, Brass means that it will be a long time before we see the genre again.

Brass does for the flat cap drama what Mel Brookes did to Westerns and Frankenstein and did it in just as funny a way. Timothy West is supurb as Bradley Hardacre the ruthless owner of the mine, the mill, the munitions factory and the crutch factory. The story revolves two families, Bradley his crippled wife (or is she), two daughters and two sons named believe it or not Austin and ... Read More:

Like other reviewers I was glad this came out on DVD (I also have the video tape version). One reviewer sated that it was not like the book, which is partially true. However, it does reflect the times and the circumstances of that rebellion at Entaples (which is still shrouded in mystery). The programme itself is brilliantly acted and the story entertaining and credible. I think it captures the period during and just after the First World War. Alan Bleasdale has done a good job of dramatising this. I certainly did not find it boring as one reviewer did. True, it does not have constant action and violence but the story is told well and not only entertaining but edifying as well. It certainly does not rely on special sound effects or slick and 'clever' camera ... Read More:

Actually this is an enjoyable enough movie for those who love Glenn Close or Ioan Gruffudd, and there are lots of fun elements to enjoy. The parrot who thinks he is a dog is an absolute scream, and the film itself is well made and well shot in my opinion. There is nothing really wrong with it except for the story itself. I can't even fault the script really...I think they did the best they could under the circumstances, and the actors all came up trumps...but as I say it's the story that lets the whole thing down.
Sometimes an original story based on established characters can work well (and has done), but this is not one of them. The story in my opinion is far-fetched even for a Disney film, and rather daft, but all in all it makes the most of what it ... Read More:

This is a visually stunning fairytale movie with an intelligent and beautiful heroine who doesn't need saving and a very charming prince who's got some learning to do. A true feel good movie. :)

This is much better than series 4.Both Liz Carling and Emma Amos had made the roles of Phoebe and Yvonne their own and the acting felt much more natural. In terms of writing this series gave me some of the best laughs I ever got out of any of the previous 4 series. My personal favourite episode was were Phoebe wanders into the 1990s after a bomb blows a hole in the space time thingy and leaves it open for people to walk through.I couldnt stop laughing when Phoebe who had been told to sit in the toilet(while gary cleared away all the post war things)suddenly shouts out "Whats a toilet duck?"
This series kept the ratings high and provides so many funny if a bit unbelievable moments that its probably one of the best comedy series out there. However the inevitable axe was looming ... Read More:

This is a nice movie. I saw it as a child and it was no edited in France. I bought it here on amazon. It is written that the movie is subtitled in french. But this is not the case! Amazon, you should check the informations before showing it on your site! So for the french people who don't speak english, don't buy this DVD because you may not understand a word!

No expense seems to have been spared to film around the world in exotic - if faux - locations (Namibia for Ethiopia, Thailand for Cambodia, Canada - less exotically - for the Caucasas and - totally implausibly - for the UK) which were then brilliantly enhanced by computer technology. The director claims that he aspired to making a film like 'Doctor Zhivago' - a love story set against a wider panorama of spectacular world events. This film fails miserably on both counts.
The supposed attraction between the two individually attractive stars totally fails to gel. Enough said about the love story.
As a portrayal of humanitarian work, the film was a horrible embarrassment to the agencies directly named or implied. It is cringingly inaccurate about their work and their modus ... Read More:

What a great movie! Brad Pitt as the voice of Sinbad is excellent, his vocals bring so much energy to the role that you nearly forget you are watching an animated film.

The movie itself is very fast with great action scenes, wonderful animation (no less can be expected from that amazing DreamWorks team), great one-liners and an invloving story/adventure. The music and sound effects are excellent adding greatly to the enjoyment of this movie.

The DVD extras are very good indeed. There are a large number of games for the kids which should keep them entertained for several hours and several other features, including a 'making of'. This is a great family movie and a good watch on a slow Sunday afternoon.
