DVD : Sleepless in Seattle [1993]
Tom Hanks (Big) stars as Sam, a single parent. A year after losing his wife, he is struggling with the loss and to help him, his son Jonah phones a radio station to ask for advice, and Annie from Baltimore hears and knows she must meet up with Sam.

Filled with plenty of romantic conventions, Nora Ephron's 1993 romantic drama creates a light hearted feel good film, with funny and dramatic moments for viewers of all ages.

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan (When Harry met Sally), in their first collaboration, are perfect in their respective role, especially Ryan who is very funny, where as Hanks takes the more serious roles, which he is always perfect at.

But the actor who steals the show is Ross Maligner, who is exceptional ... Read More:

Perhaps what the Ang Lee's movie should be praised for is its tone. The intimate plot overwhelms the immense scenery. A metaphor for what you should do in life: Don't let opportunities pass you by. No matter what, love rules our lives and our decisions. Jack Twist knew what he wanted and never got it. Enis del Mar, wasn't sure and lost it forever. The supposedly undertone works marvelously since all the inner feelings are for the audience to feel. We don't see tear jerking scenes (so easily there could be a "throwing of the ashes" scene over Brokeback... but, fortunately, it never happens) but all the sensitiveness is contained within the silences. Never before what isn't said is more important that what is told. It's a movie that will haunt you for ... Read More:

This is one of the funniest films I've ever seen on TV. Walter Matthau is extraordinary - three roles and all played completely differently. But not available except in Region 1 (US format). I would love to get my kids to watch this but need a Region 2 DVD. Same is true of 'What Did You Do in the War, Daddy?' - also a very funny film. Someone seize the business opportunity and release these great an untypical American films on a format we can watch please!

I love this film. My husband and I watched it quite by accident on the telly and I simply had to buy it. As an avid reader of historical novels set in this era it was comical for me to differentiate between how a modern citizen would converse on a daily basis compared to someone in the 1400 century. I could not disagree more with other reviewers who lack a sense of humour..... if you don't laugh at this then, quite frankly, you are already dead! Buy it and be prepared to laugh your socks off.

i am a big giants fan. they havent won a super bowl since 1991 and hadent won a playoff since 2000 the year they lost the super bowl. but this year things were diffrent. new gm tom coughlin changed and the amazing 6 win winning streak. all after giving up 80 points in there first 2 games!!!!! no one thought they could do it not even me. i only thought after that amazing patriot game at giants stadium(wich we lost but we got our revenge)and even this year no one expects them to do it even though we are 6-1.they show you every game and interviews. it still puts a tear in my eye when the super bowl is over. you can tell strayham was relived when he finaly got that super bowl ring. at the pacers game it is touching when manning hugs strayham and tells him that ... I was a bit unsure about this film, I'd read a bad review of it, but I decided to try it anyway, simply because I like the 2 actors in it.
It actually turned out to be a really good film and I enjoyed it a lot. It was funny and full of twists, I never knew what was going to happen next and the unpredictability was great.
It's the best film I've seen in a long while and I highly recommend it to anyone.

DVD : A Simple Plan [1999] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I saw this film by chance one afternoon as there was nothing else on at the cinema, and now by choice, I am one of its most ardent afficionados.

I like the Coen Bros and thought Fargo was superb but Sam Remy's, A Simple Plan, goes beyond it and really gets under your skin, aided by an unforgettable score, you start to think how easily things can go wrong.

The snow scenery adds to the sense of helplessness, both in the private lives of the characters and the plan itself in that it represents a metaphor of endlessness.

BB Thornton turns in another mesmeric performance and the often typecast Paxton does his bit well too. This is a film that benefits from being watched alone as it allows the viewer a deeper sense of involvement with ... Read More:
