Waking The Dead - Series 4 [2001]

Contemporary television drama at its best, although I have not seen all the seasons I feel certain this must be the best, if they come any better than this, WOW.

There is a wonderful atmosphere maintained throughout the season, every complex plot is a well acted and a stunning success, even if there are occasional unlikely coincidences, etc

Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd (Trevor Eve) and psychologist and profiler Grace Foley (Sue Johnson) both well into middle age lead the very much younger team of DI Jordan (Wil Johnson), DS Mel Silver (Claire Goose) and pathologist /forensic scientist Frankie Wharton (Holly Aird).
What makes it stand out against other series ... Read More:

A nice change from the usual heaviness of period drama's, I really enjoyed this.

Very light-hearted and some laugh out loud moments. Colin Firth and Rupert Everett work well together and form a funny double act.

I was surprised that I actually liked Reece Witherspoon in this as I usually find her a bit irritating.

Another great performance from Judi Dench, what period drama is complete without her!

Definately worth a watch.

It always makes my heart sink when I watch the "behind the scenes" documentaries of TV adaptations of books, and the focus is on how they've changed things, tried to make it "relevant to the modern age" and, by implication, improved upon the original. This is an enjoyable story, but it isn't "Oliver Twist." Now, I'm not a purist. I've just finished acting in a local version of the musical, Oliver! which also strays far from Dickens' original. But this one just isn't quite right. The characters keep the same names, but are not the same people. My particular gripe is with the way the Artful Dodger is portrayed. Dodger is a boy who thinks he's a man, cynical, arrogant and a joy to read about or watch. Yet here, he is yet another sulky, stroppy teenager. Oliver, ... Read More:

When I first watched this movie I wasn't very impressed at all and it was totally not at all instersting nor did it have a good realism either.
It is a real pity that Linsay Lohan has gone down hill. Most actresses do and Linsays one. She totally got carried away with too much money too early.
The movie is basicly about a girl Lola who has moved to Jersay in America from her beloved home NY!!She carries on as a real drama queen which just goes on and on...
I personally would not buy it, it is just a waste of money and time.

This was Ridley Scott's first movie and it won him an award at Cannes too ,with a great cast including Harvey keitel ,Keith carradine ,Edward fox and many more ,he had a great oppurtunity and he did not waste it for sure .
There are obvious flaws in this really glossy look at eighteenth century europe where two maniacs duel with swords and pistols in every corner of europe from Marseilles to Lubeck over a period extending to almost two decades.

Scott lights every corner and bush with a candle light or luminous mist to make this almost a romantic painting by Fragonard or Delacroix-but ultimately the 2 actors rescue him from turning the script into a stylised monstrosity-though only by a slight margin itself.

Both Carradine and Keitel ... Read More:

I think this was one of the best and original British TV cop shows ever until all the foresnsic based ones came along. The acting is top quailty. The stories interesting. The chemistry between the characters, fun. This series has the episode 'nothing to declare' which stars Keith Allen as a customs and excise officer. He is very good in the part. The ending to this series has a suprise twist.

First of all, any movie that includes Lawrence Fox is worth watching (I haven't seen him in anything I haven't liked, so far.); next, I found this well-acted two-part series absorbing from beginning to end. Damian Lewis is also excellent in the role of the charming rogue who almost gets away with his villainy.

The problem with the story, it seems to me, is that it couldn't quite make up its mind as to genre: Escape yarn? Love story? Murder mystery? Espionage thriller? It is all of these, but, given the name of the film, I can see how anyone expecting the first might be disappointed, since the narrative passes so quickly over many of the riveting details of the great escape stories that emerged during the 1950s, which concentrated both on life in the camp ... This comes 3rd in my opinion, with the films starring cate blanchett second helen mirrens elizabeth I 1st and this LAST! anne marie duff is unbelievably bad, and all the rest of the cast are like something from hollyoaks. the script is good but the acting is bad. Mary queen of scots is barely covered too, whilst also shoving a bad soundtrack into the bargain. As most people say about this production its that the first 15 mins are good and then it goes down hill. If they kept up what they did in the first 15 mins this would have been great. In the 4th episode they make her look so ugly, whilst this is horstoricly true its just not serious enough to look at it looks stupid. Ive given this 2 stars becuase the script is flawless and it goes into the little details like elizabeths moment ... Read More:
