At the time of writing, I am the 315th to review this DVD, so here's my twopennyworth. There is no need to relay the story, for if you don't know it by now ...

There is an amazing long opening take in this film. In fact there are a number of several long takes. On a technical level, there are a number of fresh and exciting scenes to ponder, such as Lizzie twirling on the farmhouse swing as the seasons pass around her. Or the window-work of Lizzie's own home as the family settles down to its night-time occupations room by room. Or Lizzie staring in the mirror at the home of Mr Collins as day turns to night. And here Mr D'Arcy arrives and leaves his letter, departing in the half-light. In the commentary that accompanies the DVD, Joe ... Read More:

At once more ambitious and less intriguing than its predecessor, Elizabeth: The Golden Age certainly isn't the abject disaster reviewers claimed on its theatrical release, although it's not nearly as engrossing as the original. Unfortunately, while Shekhar Kapur opens up the action and opts for a much lighter palate this time round, with at least a trailer's worth of striking visuals, the results are not particularly compelling. By focusing on the best-known part of the Virgin Queen's reign there's less of the constant sense of danger that marked its predecessor even though it amps up the threat by pitting her not against her own court but the might of the Spanish Empire and its Armada. Yet, being a sequel, it adheres to the `the same but different,' ... Read More:

I'll probably be lynched for this heresy!... but I wouldn't recommend this one unless you're a diehard fan of one of the actors, or just a special effects geek.
This film wanders around, without much of a plot, relying far too heavily on humour [!??] and special effects. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but want to, but it destroys relationships, with characters betraying one another instead of standing together.
Not a 'Feel Good' film, and not a PATCH on Pirates I, Curse of the Black Pearl.

This (probably) beautiful film by one of my favourite directors was ruined by a musical score (yet again!) drowning out the dialogue. When will they learn less is more???

This is a worthwhile package featuring the fine historical dramas 'Elizabeth' and 'Elizabeth:The Golden Age'.Both movies show Elizabeth 1st at different stages of her life and though they have received some critisism about their historical inaccuracies they are entertaining and well worth watching.

Cate Blanchett is fantastic in the lead role and you can't take your eyes off her.She is a wonderful actress and she is at her very best in both movies. There is very good support from the likes of Geoffrey Rush,Clive Owen,Christopher Eccleston,Joseph Fiennes and many others. The cinematography is excellent also.

Of the two,'Elizabeth' is the better movie but as a double DVD set this is a treat and definitely well worth a look. There are also extras ... Read More:

If I had wanted a documentary about Bletchley Park during WW2, I would have bought one of several good titles available, or a DVD if there was one.

Want I wanted, and got, was a really good fictional account set around the code breaking activities of that centre. The story is loosely based on real characters and events, but it is a STORY, and a very enjoyably told and terrifically acted one. I like all the actors, they work well together. The story is plausible, but I'm not interested in 'is this or that detail correct', I just want a good hour or two of entertainment set in the period of WW2, around that unique institution, and I was well satisfied.

I cannot understand why people have to nitpick. Its not as if anyone is deliberately setting ... Read More:

This is a very entertaining film with great acting. The story is slightly OTT but has some great moments in it, especially between Johnny Depp (a great performance from him) and either John Malkovitch or Samantha Morton, who are also outstanding.

This story draws you in & in places repels, but it's very entertaining and pretty dark. Recommended.

What is it about films like this? They're based on good source material and attract a good cast but when it finally makes it to the screen it seems as if the furniture is putting in a better performance.

With Possession you're left thinking that this was just another opportunity for Gwyneth to showcase her English accent and nothing more and even she's acting a bit like death warmed over.

There's the usual parade of familiar Brit thesps (Tom Hollander, Toby Stephens, Trevor Eve) all acting up a bit too much in tweeds and making Aaron Eckhart look by turns as if he's not making enough effort or everyone else is really hamming it up. Strangely, the scenes you'd think would be worst, ie the flashbacks to Victorian England are by far the best bits with Jeremy ... Read More:

DVD : The Lost Prince [2003]
This was one of the best ever BBC dramas.
It made me smile but at the end it will make you cry!
It showed some of history that you would never know about unless you were
a true historian.
Everybody played their part well.
Worth watching again and again.

As a HD disc the picture is superb, the colours are bright, detail sharp and the sound excellent.

I agree with the other reviews that it was not historically correct and spent to much time trying to find a love interest

The navel battle takes about 4 minutes of the film which is such a waste as the detail of the ships and battle scene is amazing.

I think Cate Blanchett is a superb actress who plays her part extremely well, I don`t think Clive Owen was right for the part as Raleigh the part was too big.

It is a good film only because Cate Blanchett is a superb actress.
