Sometimes a bit of hard, dark and amusing period-drama is just what the doctor ordered, taking a break from BBC endless remakes of nicety-nice Jane Austin and Charles Dickens books that we all pay our licence fees for !!!

High-way man Plunkett (Carlyle) teams up with ex-socialite Macleane (Miller) to rob the London gentry of their wears, along the way becoming infamous and inciting the wrath of the local authorities.

I felt that the film was just the right mix of drama and comedy, with serious events separated by moments of shear comic genius. Macleane encouraging Plunkett to eat more prunes and trying to catch a large ruby as it worked its way through his system, along with trying to cure a dose of the clap caught ... Read More:

Such an under-rated film, a simple heartachingly wonderful story. I could run a load of cliches to describe it, liken it to any boys story, without the misery of an Angelas Ashes or Kes, this one never gives up hope, even through the backdrop of poverty, filth and the usual alcholism/domestic violence that pervades every scene. I really wanted to find out what happened next, it was just such a good story. Highly recommended.

Good film - but you need to buy the US release to avoid the censorship cuts. US version is unfortunately region coded. What is the point of region coding older films apart from being able to charge more in the UK? In fact what is the point of region coding period. It can only encourage piracy.

This is a film worth watching. It can be classed in the thriller/scifi genre and will entertain anyone with an interest in twisting plot lines.

Michael Douglas stars as an investment banker. His brother, Sean Penn, shows up on his birthday and offers him a rather strange present. The story proceeds from there.

The film is defective in two principal ways. Firstly, the plot itself relies upon a number of totally implausible elements which harm the integrity of the story. And secondly, the film's supporting cast (Penn included) suffer from the fact that the director underdevelops (and in my opinion undervalues) their role in the storyline. Even Douglas' character is not explored in any depth: the viewer's impression of him is always somewhat ... Read More:

I think people are reviewing AVP abit harshley oh sure its not the best film to ever come along but it's most deffinitly not the worst. And a little pointer to those who say "Oh its a B movie Alien n Predator would never meet" to them I say please go and watch Predator 2 because I and 30000 over people recall seeing an Alien skull on the trophy rack.

Ok anyway time for the review Alien Vs Predator:

The plot YES their IS a plot!! Centuries ago Predators were worshiped as Gods on earth and taught man how to civilise and build etc, In return all they wanted was a sacrafice to breed the ultimate prey (Alien, well ok so its a little unexplained where they got the aliens from but nevermind its a sci fi it doesnt have to make sense)

It's nothing but a period drama with togas and furs (and a bad one at that). The acting is poor, the historical accuracy is appalling, the battle scenes make me cringe and Attila might as well have been played by Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn in Lord Of The Rings).
Truly bad, although I watched this with anticipation. The politics portayed are shocking, the death of Attila is attributed to Aetius (contrary to ANY historians beliefs), the battle scenes with the Romans using their pila (bendy javelins... hence you throw them) as spears in some sort of Greek phalanx is laughable and the in-battle acting is like something out of a 70's Doctor Who episode/Ben Hur.
I would have hoped that at least a tiny little bit of research would have been done before making even a low budget ... Read More:

this story really muddled with my head. I love colin firth's acting and had bought the film on the assumption that i would be pleased because of that. I can see how the story would be interesting because there are a lot of twists and i big gasp of 'ooo i didn't know that would happen' at the end, but it overall seemed to lack something which i'm afraid has made me not want to watch it again.

You'll come back again and again to the performances on this video, recorded in studio and on the European tour in 1968 with a hilariously under-rehearsed nonet - but, somehow, they pull it off. A few solo performances are the unforgettable highlights. But tell me, why do music documentary makers think we want to listen to a load of none-entities tell us how great someone is instead of just giving us the music? There's so little footage of Monk, I don't know why they don't just release what they have complete, without cropping it up with boring talking heads. Still, thank heaven it exists at all.

Well let's start off things by balancing the negativity of my review. The film itself is good, interesting and gripping, however, why anyone would purchase it in its HD form, i don't know.

To begin with, the audio quality lacks any real depth and subtlety, the bass destroys that in one foul swoop, and the treble notes hiss through the soundtrack and pierce your ears like knives. This can be blamed almost solely on the film's shoddy 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack, which has, quite literally, destroyed the film's audio quality.
If they had simply mastered the film in 5.1 DTS-HD then the film would have been a great package, but it is down to these evil film companies that feel they can rip us off with atrocious soundtracks.

Don't get me started on the film transfer, my 3 year old daughter ... Read More:
