Comparisons to the equally beautiful 'In The Mood for Love' are well targeted here and not just because of the Tony Leung connection. Lust, Caution exhibits the same muted (almost mutilated) sexual tensions against a back drop of middle-class, Western-obsessed indifference which suffocates in a vacuum of talking without communicating. Indeed, the title is like a road sign for those wishing to escape the numbness of existence: Danger follows if unheeded...

The performances are sublime as is the photography and editing (the Mah-Jong sequences deserve a special award) but it is the direction which triumphs. Ang Lee is the unchallenged master of cinema which finds beauty in an ugly world (The Ice Storm sprung to mind on several occassions) ... Read More:

I have a problem with these 'dancing on air' martial arts films, a-la Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: they look daft. Once you've seen one guy on a wire you've seen them all. Once you've seen a guy stamping his feet forty feet up a bamboo tree you say `Oh, look, a bird'. The only place where these effects have ever seemed anything other than laughable is in The Matrix: because it isn't a real world environment. There you can make allowances. Hero has lots of stylish fighting, but if you can't take it seriously, what's the point? An exercise in futility.
Hero is additionally befuddled by the message it attempts to impart: totalitarian societies are okay because although they are born in bloodshed they lead to a united, peaceful society. Oh they do, do ... Read More:

This actually contains the 2 disc version of 'Bullet in the Head', making it a 4 disc set. All of the extras on that bonus disc are listed on the back of the box, so I believe the '3 Disc Collector's Edition' note on the front is just plain wrong.

As far as I know, these are the best region 2 editions of these movies currently available.

2046 is a film directed by the internationally renowned Wong Kar Wai. It loosely follows the prequels, Days Of Being Wild and In The Mood For Love. It first aired in 2004 and is based in Hong Kong (but is actually filmed in the fashion capital of China-Shanghai), and has an award-winning cast of Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Cheung, Faye Wong, Carina Lau and other famous actors.

This beautiful art piece is a classic Hong Kong film and a complete success at the hands of ever-skilful Wong Kar Wai and his team. Wong Kar Wai was one of the first directors in Hong Kong who did not give the audience a straightforward story, but challenged the way the audience thought about people in one of his first films, Days Of Being Wild. 2046 runs along the same theme, ... Let's face it: over the last few years, Tartan have put out a lot of shabby, low-contrast, single-layer DVDs of important foreign films, so it's a relief to say that this is not one of them! There are two dual-layer discs, with the film looking as good as you'd hope and lashings of imaginative extras on disc two. The Criterion may still have the edge, but it's pretty close.

This is Hong kong's Godfather and any other screen masterpiece you can think of. Rivetting from start to finish I suggest you watch this film with those that love true cinema pieces as this is a very plot and dialogue driven movie. But dont get me wrong, it is packed with more than enough explosions and gun battles. The acting is superb the plot is genius, what more can i say except buy this film.

This early Wan Kar Wai masterpiece is considerably lighter but touches on many of his favorite themes (including isolation, unrequited love) and the two stories are woven together loosely. Absolutely essential movie for anyone who considers themselves a lover of HK cinema.

I'm not sure why I enjoyed this film. There is no plot to speak of, it focuses on a couple from Hong Kong who are in Argentina and the breakdown of their relationship. That said, anyone who has ever been in a relationship (gay or otherwise) will empathise completely with this film.

Tony Leung and Leslie Cheung manage to portray one of the most realistic relationships ever committed to celluloid. The acting is so natural, that at times I forgot I was watching a film, I was so immersed in their performances.

This is the first Wong Kar Wai film I have ever saw and I found the directing style a bit jarring at first but soon found that it fit in with the story excellently.

I would definitely recommend this film to anyone who loves proper cinema.
Give it a go, you won't ... Read More:
