Lets face it, Madame Bovary was always going to be difficult to produce. The story really centres around Dr Bovary, and Emma Bovary is his second wife, and you have to read about his first marriage until you get to Emma. Although I am a fan of Flaubert and Madame Bovary, as well as many others, I can also see where a large group of people are coming from when they say that this book is one of the most boring written.Madame Bovary (Penguin Classics) if you would like to read the book.

This production is not a straight transposition of the novel, opening as it does after Dr Bovary has lost his first wife. We see in this drama Dr Bovary getting Emma to become his second wife. Emma has been brought up spoiled by her father. Dr ... Read More:

What a great, hilarious comedy show, "The Vicar Of Dibley" really was!
I was certainly thrilled to see that there is such a superb release of the show such as this double disc DVD set.
What you have here are the first two series of this wonderful, laugh out loud gem of a comedy under one package at a budget price of which is worth every single penny, believe me!
Dawn Frech is wonderful as the trendy, chocolate and male loving vicar as are all the rest of the actors who play the werid and wonderful country folk! If you don't love at least one of the characters, something's wrong!
All your favorite early episodes are here and this is a DVD which you'll find yourself playing over again and again which I have done for months. ... Read More:

I was mistaken when I thought that renting the Christmas specials would cheer me up and make me laugh. the Christmas edition was marvelous, although the comedy a little strained. the New Year edition was terrible. I think Ms French's ego has tripped off the scale. I am all too aware of the worlds problems, I watch the news. I don't need Ms French to lecture me from the safety of her Knightsbridge mansion, or wherever she calls home. She could ease World Hunger by leaving some of the pies.

I'm currently watching this with my young daughters and they are absolutely fascinated with this. I remember watching it at their age when the BBC were showing the original and it feels very special indeed to now be sharing this with my children, many years on.

The quality of acting is superb and the sets are deliciously retro which do nothing but add a particularly Dickensian atmosphere to the series.

We will be watching the final episode later on and have thoroughly enjoyed this heirloom edition of an excellent BBC costume drama.

DVD : Titus Andronicus BBC Shakespeare Collection (1985) (DVD)
Having subdued the Goths, conquering hero Titus Andronicus returns to Rome to bury his sons, with Gothic Queen Tamora and her retinue as captives. Titus sacrifices Tamora's eldest son to the gods and helps Saturninus become the new Roman emperor. But when Saturninus chooses Tamora as his wife, an unstoppable wave of bloody revenge is unleashed . . .
Black humour and revenge mark a production where numerous characters face a bloody and horrific death. Shakespeare's revenge tragedy is an intense, primal work with passages of great poetry. As the excesses and ambiguities of family relationships and the abuse of power take hold, Trevor Peacock, in the lead role, delivers a dominating and moving performance.
This, the most gory of all of the Bard's ... Read More:

For Vicar of Dibley fans, this DVD will not disappoint. It contains seven great episodes from the fist series (Arrival, Songs of Praise, Community Spirit, the Window and the Weather, Election, Animals and the hilarious Christmas Lunch Incident). Dawn French portrays the vicar perfectly yet bizarrely and each character is unique in their own special way, especially Jim Trot and Mrs Cropley with her awful but funny recipes - lard and fish! No matter how many times you watch the episodes, you can watch them over and over without getting bored. The Christmas Lunch Incident is by far the funniest and is sure to make anyone laugh, I am just glad Geraldine didn't have to have lunch with Mrs Cropley! The Brussels sprout competition was indeed the funniest. The only ... Read More:

I remember thinking nine years ago 'What the hell do we need yet another version of A Xmas Carol for' (as great as the story is) and consequently, I avoided watching it. But years roll on quite swiftly, and eventually, I thought I'd give it a go, spurred on mainly by seeing Patrick Stewart on a few chatshows down the years and thinking what a nice bloke he was, completely unshowbizzy. He was without doubt a star in this film version, full of awe at what his ghosts are showing him, and full of humanity when he eventually saw the light.

This is quite a snug and cosy feeling production, with alot of attention paid to little details, and the domestic scenes with Bob Cratchet and family are heartwarming. Stewart plays the character as he should be played, a man ... Read More:

I brought this expecting it to be a really good vicer of dibley film. But it turned out just to be Dawn French talking and just some flashs of the actual films of vicar of dibley.
