This revenge film has a lot of action, attitude and good old fashioned destruction. Convincing performances and a real edge to some of the dialogue lift it up. This movie delivers well.

Only got this because it was cheap and I was curious to see how it compares to the (somewhat under-rated) original. Turns out its inferior in every way except for the scenery. The basic problem being the near-complete-absence of the factor that made the original worth watching - the flawed nature of all the protagonists and the consequent tensions between them.
Its as if the makers were terrified that if the central characters were less than heroic (not to mention buff and toned) a modern audience would lose interest. But without that factor its just an exercise in aeronautical engineering, without the drama of seeing a bunch of flawed human beings, who mostly can't stand each other, managing to pull together to survive.

I am neither male nor black nor an American, yet from the first time I saw this movie I found myself drawing uncomfortable parallels between myself and Jody, your main character. I probably shouldn't have been so surprised; John Singleton has always had a talent for creating characters that you can relate to regardless of your place in life.

From what I've heard, the late Tupac Shakur had been Singleton's first choice for the movie, and after Shakur's death he searched for a long time until he found Tyrese Gibson - understandable, because with Shakur's legendary talents, any role of his would be a hard one to fill. Gibson, however, does not disappoint. Despite his pretty-boy looks and image - or perhaps, to some extent, because of them - he makes a convincing, ... Read More:

When a film is entitled ANNAPOLIS one expects to see something that resembles or in some part reflects the title. Unfortunately, this is based on a small, twice-told story rendered in what appears to be a Frankenscript made up from parts of other scripts from feature films superior to it. It's a superficial story at that. It's also obvious that the neither writer nor director served in either the US Navy or the USN Marines Division, nor apparently bothered to hire a knowledgeable consultant for it lacks authenticity and is marred by technical errors. For example, there's a line where Midshipman Cole (well played by the striking Tyrese Gibson) a former Marine that we later learn will return to the Marines after graduating Annapolis refers to himself as a "soldier." This is a ... Read More:

Where do these producers get the money to make these awful cheesy movies and why is Tyrese trying to ruin his career.
I'm not trying to say that Tyrese is Oscar material but he put in a decent performance in 'Baby Boy' and in 'Transformers' which he was very funny in.

I am baffled how Meagan Good gets work because she is so type cast it is ridiculous, she always plays the skinny temptress with the big mouth. Watch some of her movies and see what i mean, she played the same character in 'Biker boys', Stomp the Yard' and 'You got served', she even played the temptress in a few episodes of the fantastic comedy 'My wife and kids' before she was replaced by Donna Summers daughter. She pouts far too much, there's no denying she's attractive but i would love to see her play ... Read More:

DVD : 2 Fast 2 Furious [HD DVD] [2003]
'2 Fast 2 Furious' is a fairly predictable sequel, but it delivers on the bottom line -- you want great car chases, you got great car chases. It is also another fine HD DVD effort from Universal. An often stunning transfer, aggressive Dolby Digital-Plus surround track and plenty of extras make this one a nice upgrade over the standard-def DVD release. Though lacking a Dolby TrueHD track and any genuine HD bonus content, it will still give your HD DVD home theater a real workout.
