Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko is out of place in this piece of crap film based on a computer game. Hollywood - obviously running out of ideas for new films now seems to try anything - from computer games to sequels to remakes. This DVD features the UNRATED version of the film, which is a bit more violent than the PG-13 version shown in movie theaters in the States. Nonetheless it DOESN'T make a crappy film any better. And sorry, Timothy Olyphant is NOT a convincing actor at all.

... but really glad to have seen it at all!

NO SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW

As it states above; a 60 year old man is celebrating his birthday and throws a "Festen" where in which all his family and close friends are invited. But some very disturbing things have happened in the past ... or did they!?! ... and it's time for it to come out ... or is it?!?

Shot in a rather Lars von Trier "fly on wall" style, and acted brilliantly with a fantastically colourful collection of characters. This is a landmark in Danish film-making. The plot is thrown left, right and centre, while its cleverly devised sub-plots all slide perfectly in place providing a massively entertaining 100 minutes cherry'ed with an array of thoughts for the ... I noticed that practically all the reviews carried a 5 star rating hence I feel confident to give it the same rating As i saw it today and it was a sheer delight.I can compare the hollywood version as i have now seen both and and my verdict is that I prefer the original although both are thoughroghly entertaing.(everyone should see both, but not on an empty stomach. Going to the cinema at the normal time is out of the question with my working patterns I have to see a 10-12pm showing which I did last night and had the whole cinema to myself for a showing of "No Reservations" starring Catherine Zeta Jones and Aaron whatshisname?,It took a leap of faith to entice me to go in the first place but I was pleasantly surprised with everything about it, The plot the ... This is a really weird film for me. I've only ever seen it twice, and it having been some time since I saw it the first time around, I was surprised to find that on my second viewing, I'd only really remembered about the first twenty minutes or so - a part which had stuck in my mind quite vividly.

Despite its suspense-type thriller content, along with some really explicit scenes featuring 'kinky' sex, ironically, the most memorable moments in this film for me are the romantic ones. The movie gets off to a great start, and gives the viewer the misconception they're in for a real soppy love story, about two complete strangers falling in love at first sight - but it's far more complex than that - and a lot more exciting too; falling for a strange ... Based on the true story of a German rocket scientist(Gerhard Zucher), who in the years prior to WW2, found himself on the Hebridean Island of Scapa, much to chagrin of the local population, who would have preferred a telephone service.
He eventually overcomes their hostility and falls in love with a local lass.
This is a slow moving, humourous, romantic tale. Beautifully acted and filmed. Almost an idyllic love tale until the Fatherland intervenes.
One of the most moving films I have watched in a number of years and deserves much wider recognition.
Highly recommended.

It starts in Germany in 1918. The army has lost; peace is about to be signed. Max Rothman (John Cusack), who lost an arm fighting, has set up a gallery in an old factory. He features modernist painters and sculptors who are just starting to break through, painters like Max Ernst and George Grosz. Max is skeptical of all the fine words about war and peace. He's smart, amusing, married with two kids, and has a mistress. After what he's been through in the war and sees in Germany around him..."There's no future in the future," he says. His Germany now is full of rampant poverty and unemployment, tremors of Socialist revolution, casual anti-Semitism among the priviledged, and Jewish scapegoating among many others. Max is Jewish.

He meets by chance a fellow who desperately wants ... Read More:

For me this movie is magic. Above all some scenes that can led to the conclusion that Connie NIelsen is a great actress.I remember the scene when Jannik call Connie 'cos apparently hasn't got enough money to pay the bill, the conversation in the car when Jannik admits how painful is missing his brother is the key of the movie, for me. You can notice the pain, the sorrow and... how two people start to feel atracted for each other. I fall in love with the tension of the film. If you see this movie twice you can appreciate that , either in the dinner before the michael's leaving, or in the dinner of the michael's comeback there is an unbereable tension between the characters. It is curious, but it;s true. It is one of the main reasons why I like this kind of movies. It's just the reality.

Angst is the word to summarise this film.

Jean Janes (McCormack) a news photographer is assigned the job of researching a double-murder on the Isles of Shoals on 6 March 1873 as a parallel comment on a current crime. Persuading her husband’s brother Rich (Lucas) to take them on his boat including his girl friend Adaline (Hurley). Jean is already worried about her husband Thomas (Penn) and her share of the angst intensifies with the astute understanding Adaline has of Thomas’s poems and her subtle hitting on him. This works very well within the claustrophobic confines of the boat, but somehow the tension never really materialises, I think the pace is wrong.

Back to 1873 and we find ourselves in typical Scandinavian territory familiar to fans of Igmar Bergman. Two sisters, ... Read More:

This is what I suppose you could consider a typically Scandinavian film. By that, I mean it's rather downbeat (to say the least!) & there are no real histrionics involved. Pretty much anti-Hollywood, which is no bad thing at all.
Christoffer stays with his beautiful Swedish actress girlfriend in Stockholm & seems to live the perfect life. Unfortunately his world soon changes when his father hangs himself, leaving his failing steel business in limbo. He has his arm twisted by his domineering mother to take over the business, rather than his brother-in-law who was considered to be the heir-apparent, much to the disgust of his girlfriend, Maria.
Christoffer breaks promise after promise to Maria about only staying in Copenhagen for a limited amount of time until she has enough & leaves him ... Read More:
