If I had not seen the more recent production of this first, I would have found the end more tense.

Richard Jeackel is a very good as the psychotic side kick, Charlie Prince. A shame his ending is not as dramatic as in the latest version.

The ending in this one is more subtle and you need to listen carefully to what Ben Wade says. If you do then the ending is a more acceptable I think because he has no intention of ... In the remake, just in case a modern audience does not get the point, he does something else in the very last few seconds.

Glenn Ford is very good. Charismatic.

For the price this is worth looking at.

I shall always remember the thrill as a small boy when my parents took me to a local cinema to watch a western. Randolph Scott and particularly Joen McCrea were the order of the day at the time. But Shane was such a hard act to follow regular westerns were just not the same after. Shane played by Alan Ladd, was so good that even with the enhanced photography of today there are not many westerns that can hold a candle to this thoughtful film.

It is interesting that the original intended casting was for Montgomery Clift to play the part of Shane and for William Holden to portray Joe Starrett. Whilst I can see the logic of these selections, Katharine Hepburn as the Mrs. Starrett just does not seem right somehow.

For me however, ... Read More:

This is the best film about Jesus that I have ever watched.
It will take you through a roller coaster of emotions as you watch it. The actor who plays Jesus is brilliant. In one scene where he is asked if he is really the son of god, Jesus replies 'I am HE!'. Simply great. Another great scene, and there are pleanty, is when he is in a church in Jerusuleam and stands up and starts teaching the others in the church about god. Everyone should seriously watch this film, you will enjoy it emensley.

In this sizzling trek across Mexico Hollywood creates a masterpiece in a study of human behaviour under unusual circumstances and duress.

The circumstances that determine our fickle but fascinating minds is studied in the best psychological western i have ever seen.

The characters are driven by a mysterious courage ,nobility and a selfishness that is very human yet evil and the question of what is the dertemining factor that creates a hero out of an ordinary human being is put to a visceral test, some people will disagree with the bitter truth of the revelation as ROSSEN and swarthout are both very subtle and satirical yet intelligent as the creators of this deceptively smart drama dressed as an action thriller ,but it becomes a penultimate study of ... "Santa Fe Trail" is a fine action film giving viewers another chance to watch Errol Flynn romance Olivia de Havilland, with Ronald Reagan playing the best friend who takes losing out on the girl like a real man. However, the more you know about American history the more likely you are to cringe at some of these going on because Flynn plays James Elwell Brown (J.E.B.) Stuart and Reagan plays George Armstrong Custer. Of course, the year after this 1941 film was released Flynn would play Custer in "They Died With Their Boots On," where once again de Havilland would play his love interest; this time she plays Kit Carson Halliday, but most viewers should be able to realize she is not THAT Kit Carson. Screenwriter Robert Buckner takes some of the better known generals from the Civil War ... Read More:

"This large-scale Technicolor musical is one of those over-the-top, maximalistic productions that the Golden Age of the Studio System was famous for!" - right, what's written in synopsis is absolutelty true.

The problem however is that you won't see and hear it with this DVD item in your player, looking like transferred from 20th copy of 20th VHS copy or recorded directly from screen with an amateur camera. Nothing surprising, as "Till The Clouds Roll By" are - similarly to eg. "Royal Wedding" - the victim of its public domain status, meaning that the original owner (MGM) doesn't see any interest and reasons to invest in launching restored version of the movie.

It's a pity, as although far from being a masterpiece (with screenplay and dialogues reaching the very bottom from ... Read More:

I read the reviews here and elsewhere beforehand - thinking that the quality can't be *that* bad. Turns out some of the films are indeed downright unwatchable. I don't mind a little grit, but the fuzziness going on here is astonishing. I'll probably end up watching about half of the films before passing the whole thing on. At good quality this box would be worth four times as much. OK value, but beware.
