This film had a huge impact on me when I watched it growing up. Yes it is a long film and at times it is heavy going but stick with it. Amazing performances from McQueen and Hoffman. This is the greatest true story of escape ever told. The ending is the most moving, sad and thought provoking I've seen in a film. Long after the credits have gone you will still have Papillon in your head. They don't make films like this anymore.

This is the story of Helen Keller, a young girl who went def and blind at around 3yo's. How she is taught to communicate with the worl, through Anne Bancroft, is a wonder. They played this on the stage, and made the film together. The fights are real, and left both of them black and blue.
Trivia information.
Patty Duke married John Austin, and became Patty Duke Austin. John played Gomez in the TV series, the Adams Family.
They had a son, called Sean, as in Sean Austin in the LOTR, Samwise.

The siege of the Alamo took place in early 1836 some 200 or so men defended the old crumbling adobe mission for 13 days against the might of the Mexican Army, apart from a small group of women and young children there were no known survivors. From a novel by Niven Busch and Oliver Crawford THE MAN FROM THE ALAMO (1953) is a B-Western directed by Bud Boetticher and starring Glenn Ford in the title role.

John Stroud (Ford) with a small group of locals from his home town secretly draw lots to decide which of them will leave the fort to protect their families. Stroud draws the black bean and prepares to leave the fort to the dismay of the other defenders. Riding hell-for-leather he arrives home too late, discovering from Carlos (sole surviving Mexican boy) ... Read More:

DVD : Cheyenne Autumn [1964] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I have read the reviews about John Fords 'Cheyenne Autumn'. John Ford tried in this film I believe to highlight the truth about the american indians, the true native americans, not the different cultures who claimed to be americans. He tried to highlight the plight of the native americans and how they were forced from their native lands onto reservations where nothing except weeds would grow. They couldn't hunt buffalo because they like the indians had been hunted and killed almost to the point of extinction. In the 60's when the film had been made all the news had been about the civil rights movement and the rights of the black american citizens. John Ford tried to remind the american public that there was another race of people in America who weren't receiving any civil/human ... Read More:

Don't buy. This film has lost 21 minutes from the original (Audie Murphy doesn't even appear!) and is very, very poorly presented. A total waste of money.

DVD : Each Dawn I Die [1939] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
this film started quite promisingly, but then suddenly slowed down and then picked up. rather an uneven film but still has good scenes.
james cagney simply steals the film with another riveting performance but with a different style as well.this time, he isn't quite so keen to get involved in any shady dealings.(i would have thought he'd have enough on his mind with trying to prove his innocence)
there is certainly a gritty, uncompromising atmosphere, especially in the prison scenes; corrupt prison officials, mentally unbalanced convicts.who wants to do time?
teaming up cagney with george raft was a good move. they work well together. a shame raft didn't make it to the A list of stars; not the best actor i've seen, but good enough.
it's about 35 minutes ... Read More:

These 6 films are at first glance odd choices, as you would normally have expected classics such as Rainman and Marathon Man on a Dustin film collection.

Very impressed with the quality and diversity of work here on these 6 films, only 1 (Hero) of which i already owned.

Joan of Arc is probably the strangest inclusion here, but is still visually stunning and worth a look.
Some of the others, like Tootsie, i hadn't seen for years and enjoyed watching them again.

The dvds are packaged in individual space saving folding card cases, all featuring the same artwork and extra features as the original single releases, within an outer cardboard cover.

Works out at around £2.00 to £3.00 per film, so this represents excellent value, and ... Read More:
