I dont understand why this programme had so many accolades, especially for Victoria Wood. Her writing, generally is fantastic, but her acting leaves a lot to be desired. I found her totally unbelievable, as are a lot of comics that turn their hand to acting..catherine tate, david walliams et al.I realise i am in the minority, i wanted to like and enjoy this, and maybe with someone different leading it, i would have.

FINALLY - what we have all (well, an awful lot of us anyway!) been waiting for. Not just Series 1, but Series 1, Series 2 and the Christmas Special in a two disc DVD set. These were the days when time and money went into comedy at the BBC, and what an amazing team Victoria Wood and Julie Walters are - not forgetting the rest of the wonderful cast and crew. There is only one problem with this DVD release: I want to see every episode of Series 3 onwards NOW - come on BBC, release then soon...PLEASE! "Legs. We came here to get away from legs."

This is why I love Victoria Wood's work! She manages to take us on a journey through all the major emotions in this type of production,and even though Pat and....is laced with her cutting wit,we are also treated to moments of tenderness. Julie Walters is,as usual,outstanding,as is every actor represented. One favourite moment is when the gap between Margaret (Victoria Wood) and Pat (Julie Walters) is blindingly obvious in Margaret's bedsit/flat. Pat is telling her that she knows a really "simple" recipe using fresh pasta,basil,etc,but all Margaret can produce is tinned spaghetti! Beautifully observed and brilliantly realised!

This "mini-series" collection is Victoria Wood at her script writing best. Like other reviewers I can't believe it has taken the BBC so long to release it. All we need for them to do now is release "All Day Breakfast" on DVD and I will be very happy! The best episodes for me are "We'd Quite Like To Apologise" because I work in travel myself and I still see these sort of passengers travelling today. The other one I really like is "Mens sana ... " just because of Julie Waters' character. If you haven't got these episodes already - buy them today! :-)

The film is OK, and probably undeserving of the ire in many of the reviews here, but it's not a patch on the series itself, which is one of the finest things ever to come out of the BBC. To me, the Christmas special will always be the "true" LoG movie.

This version of Goodbye Mr Chips is in my opinion a superb production and by far the best version yet made. The story is familiar, a strict disciplinarian schoolmaster who mellows with age and wins the love and respect of everyone around him. Martin Clunes was an inspired choice for the part of Mr Chipping, and his powerful performance was the most touching thing I have ever seen.... ever! I defy anyone with half a heart to watch this film and remain unmoved by it. Martin Clunes played Chips from a young twenty-something, through to a caring and much beloved headmaster in his late eighties, and not only is his performance thoroughly believable, the make-up department also did a bang-up job in making him look totally genuine as an old man. You will either love or hate this live action movie version of Kenneth Grahame's charming book.Personally i disliked it immensely,it captured known of the warmth & cameraderie of the book,and the main characters to me were completely miscast. Out of the many versions of this enchanting story i have seen this is probably the worst by far.For an accurate adaptation of this brilliant book i would thoroughly recommend without hesitation "Cosgrove/Hall's" animated film of the story which is a true classic,featuring the vocal talents of David Jason, Sir Michael Horden & Ian Carmichael. If ever i had the misfortune to be given Terry Jones's version as a present it would be placed straight into a charity collection bag 'unopened' or better still the dustbin! Read More:

I purchased the set (without actually watching it) upon the reccommendation of a friend and the reviews written on this production. I'm so glad to own this production. At first I was not sure what to expect and I was not at all impressed with it when I first viewed it. Thinking on the production and viewing it again the second time I have come to apperciate the production and the leading actors do an amazing job as Victoria and Albert. I especially like how Albert married Victoria even though he was not in love with her as Victoria was with Albert. But he took his marriage vows very seriously and he grew to love Victoria and was faithful to her.
