This will surely be the total catalyst for Blu-Ray players to be sold when this superb set is converted to the HD format of Blu-Ray.

Overall the movies and sound (real room shaking stuff on a decent surround sound system) even on DVD put anything else to shame.

I've really enjoyed the work of director David Cronenberg over the years, so I watched Eastern Promises with anticipation. Naomi Watts plays a London midwife who takes an interest in the case of a young East European girl who dies in childbirth. From the girl's diary she makes contact with a seemingly respectable Russian businessman, Armin Mueller-Stahl, but later learns he's involved in Russian Organized Crime, the girl has been trafficked and forced into prostitution, and the businessman's son is the baby's father. The male lead is Viggo Mortensen, who plays a "driver", but actually muscle within the organization. His character has a tough exterior but within lies a spark of humanity, so he helps Naomi Watts' character to discover the truth about ... Read More:

This is great stuff, hugely good fun and absorbing from the get go. The script and performances are great (check out Edwin Torres' books Carlito's Way and After Hours - both the basis for this and stunning reading) and the film delivers in every way. Some fine action and pretty much iconic scenes and you have a real winner.

The LOTR triology is one of those stories that you have to watch or read at least once in your life, and as I could never get into the novels I had to settle for watching the films instead - and they were incredible. The conclusion to the story does not let down it's previous installments and is more than a worthy ending for the trilogy. These are fantastic films that should be held up as an example of just how moving films can be if made correctly. A story I will always come back to. Incredible.

A magnificently beautiful film. Remaining loyal to the book, Peter Jackson has made a huge leap from his earlier (and FANTASTIC) blood-soaked gore-fests (BAD TASTE, MEET THE FEEBLES and BRAINDEAD) - keep your eye out for a cameo from Lionel's mother from BRAINDEAD as a hobbit in the extended version of this. The action is brilliant, the shots are stunning, the special effects are breath-taking, the acting is superb, and the music is beyond phonemenol. Definetly one of the greatest film (if not the greatest trilogy) since 2000. A MUST SEE!"

The first film (Fellowship of the Ring) was closer to the book in content and in the overall feel of the film. Sadly, this film suffers from what the first film did not .... its a little too 'Hollywoodised' and Peter Jackson could be accused of George Lucas-esc tackyness. Unlike the first installment, this movie differs too much from the book. The films ending is corny with an over the top Hollywood-esc speech from Sam which was a little too cringfull. The main battle at the end of the movie is visually impressive but has over-the-top moments that almost ruin the climax. These moments include such tacky antics as Legolas riding his shield like a surf-board down a set of stair whilst firing arrows .... and where Aragorn and Gimli hold off hundreds of Orcs all by themselves. At times this film verges ... Read More:

So this is it. Yet another cinematic trilogy draws to a close. Great things comes in threes : the Star Wars Trilogy. The Omen Trilogy. Indiana Jones. The Omen. The Godfather. The Matrix (er, maybe I should rethink this particular theory).

And now this. The final four hours of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. But this isn't a trilogy, nor is it just a remake or a continuation (it's not The Lord Of The Rings 3-d : The Revenge, for example), simply the third and final part of the story.

And my god, it's long. Two hundred and ten bum-numbing minutes. That's three times as long as Toy Story. There's not even an intermission : just a constant, endless trawl of dialogue, CGI, and stuff. Endless long panning shots - Look At This! It's Big! It's Slow! It's got.... Ominous music!

Even with a number one shaved head, Demi Moore is still a fox.

Entered into elite SEAL training, she is beaten up, shot at and half drowned all to prove that the girls are as tough as the boys.

After much hardship, she makes the grade and proves herself in a Libyan mission with flying colours.

Good action scenes in places and good storyline.

I'm not a huge fan of Cronenberg and didnt enter into this film with particularly high expectations - maybe thats why I enjoyed this film as much as I did.

The story gripped me from the start and I found myself changing my mind throughout the film as to the motives of Mortensen and Harris. The acting is suberb - especially in the scenes between Mortensen and Harris, there is a real palpable sense of tension whenever they are on screen together.

I was gripped by the story and the script, It's not a film for everyone - I can see why some people may find it slow - but if you watch it, concentrate, get drawn into the story and are patient with it, it will reward you.

The style of the film is quite low key - which I think suits it - interspersed with some quite horrific and graphic ... Read More:
