I've really enjoyed the work of director David Cronenberg over the years, so I watched Eastern Promises with anticipation. Naomi Watts plays a London midwife who takes an interest in the case of a young East European girl who dies in childbirth. From the girl's diary she makes contact with a seemingly respectable Russian businessman, Armin Mueller-Stahl, but later learns he's involved in Russian Organized Crime, the girl has been trafficked and forced into prostitution, and the businessman's son is the baby's father. The male lead is Viggo Mortensen, who plays a "driver", but actually muscle within the organization. His character has a tough exterior but within lies a spark of humanity, so he helps Naomi Watts' character to discover the truth ... Read More:

This is a worthwhile package featuring the fine historical dramas 'Elizabeth' and 'Elizabeth:The Golden Age'.Both movies show Elizabeth 1st at different stages of her life and though they have received some critisism about their historical inaccuracies they are entertaining and well worth watching.

Cate Blanchett is fantastic in the lead role and you can't take your eyes off her.She is a wonderful actress and she is at her very best in both movies. There is very good support from the likes of Geoffrey Rush,Clive Owen,Christopher Eccleston,Joseph Fiennes and many others. The cinematography is excellent also.

Of the two,'Elizabeth' is the better movie but as a double DVD set this is a treat and definitely well worth a look. There ... Read More:

Its rubbish. I persevered with up to half way, but could not take any more. Nothing happened and you simply do not care about the cliche characters. Do yourself a big favour and give this total bore a miss.

I was hugely looking forward to watching these two so finally got them using the Amazon Rental thingy. People had been going on about how they weren't just for kids and what great films they were. Well, I'm sorry, but I just don't get it. They were both pretty dull. Thin plots, poor songs and musical numbers (apart from the last number in Shrek 2), annoying characters (in a more realistic film someone would have shot the Donkey ten minutes in).

Maybe I'm just an old grouch, but I fell asleep twice during the second one and the first wasn't much better.

Firstly, this is a funny film. This made me laugh all the way through until........you guessed it, the food poisoning scene which, even as someone who has followed the careers of these two from The Young Ones and been to the stage shows, I have to say, I found it too much to watch; even though it was comedy vomiting it went on for too long and made me feel quite ill after watching it! If you can stick it though, it's a great film, so I'm not giving it the thumbs down, just a warning to those of a nervous disposition!

I really enjoyed this film, I've seen hundreds of films and love thrillers, but I can honestly say that I've never seen a film quite like this before.

I guess this is a thriller that's also a psychological thriller with some really good twists and turns.

I do wonder sometimes if Clive Owen is truly a lead actor or not, but here he proves that he is in what could well be his best performances that I've seen of his to date, Jennifer Aniston is also in fine form in a role completely away from any other role I've seen her in, then there's the performance of Vincent Cassel who's superb as the villain, for me he's the best screen villain that I've seen for sometime.

It's difficult to say anything else about the film as it could give ... Read More:

Viggo Mortensen is a great actor which he clearly shows in this film. The story is clear and you get a good look into the director and writers interpretation of the Russian mafia set in London. The atmosphere is excellent and I sat amazed through most of the movie. Most meaning that it was rather long. I am no big fan of Naomi Watts and I thought she did her job on this film, no more no less. But thats probably just me.
If your are interested in Russian society set in western Europe this is a movie for you. If you want fast entertainment, do not go for this film.
Recommended ? yes, definitely.

This is quite simply wonderful.

Suspend your disbelief for a couple of hours, transport yourself back a few years to a simpler time before we lived in age of mobile phones, email, blackberries and instant communication, and enjoy.

A must for anyone who enjoys beautiful camera work, audacious plots, Paris and Hitchcock. And watching Cassel and Bellcui slowly falling in love in real life as well as in the film adds to its undeniable style and glamour.

I've probably seen better, worthier films, but this remains my favourite all time movie. It may have its faults (although I've never found any), but it certainly isn't boring.

I have persuaded many people to watch this film, several of whom usually eschew subtitles. At the very least, all ... Read More:
