Edward (Depp), born with scissors for hands, is brought into the local village and becomes the talk of the town.

God bless Tim Burton. Who in their right minds would take a fairy tale and include a man with scissors for hands? Burton's sheer strangeness continues after his beautiful Beetlejuice and Batman in this darkly colourful fantasy drama and throws the fairytale convention out of the window. Burton is an inspiration to the film industry, a man who does everything differently and there is no one else out there like him, and his finally cut creation, inspired by one of his own drawings, is a sentimental spark in his collection, his most touching to date.

For those fairytale lovers out there don't worry. This 1990 ... Read More:

This movie is very inaccurate and does not correspond to the events described in the Bible. Even worse than that --- they couldn't even get the names right --- e.g. Yochebed is called Jochabel etc. In the Bible God sends Moses but in the movie it is Joshua who does this first (and God merely (and seemingly reluctantly) confirms it with a barely audible voice from a shining (not burning as in the Bible) tree (not a bush as in the Bible). The list of errors is too big to mention them all here. Suffice it to say that I am surprized that even in 1956 people were so degenerate as to watch this rubbish and call it "Bible epic". It is more appropriate for the current times when people call white black and black white.

A fantastic film that won quite a few awards. Even though the film is in black and white it captures the heartache, indignity, faith, and a true story of Bernadette Soubirous and the struggles of a poor family living in one tiny room and Bernadette suffering ill health with Asthma. Bernadette was 14yrs old when the first apparition appeared, she had over 18 visions from Our Lady at the Grotto in France in 1858. She died in 1879 and was Canonized. Lourdes is celebrating it's 150th year where over 8 million people visit the Grotto every year, bathe in the freezing cold spring water and people come in Procession to celebrate Our Lady apparitions. This Year Pope Benedict XVI will be celebration Mass in Lourdes on the 13th September due to 150 years of the Apparitions. ... Read More:

Complicated murder mystery starring Dana Andrews and Dame Judith Anderson.

A woman named 'Laura' is 'nurtured' by an older man named 'Waldo Lydecker' (Clifton Webb). He attempts to guide her also in love - putting off every suitor because he really wants her for himself. The mystery begins when it is believed that Laura has been murdered. Everyone falls under suspicion, but there's an unusual shock twist in store.

A good story with a complex plot if you can follow.

like most of roger corman's films based on edgar allan poe, there isn't much taken and used from poe's original stories.
however, that doesn't make a lot of difference as corman's work with vincent price is some of the best i've seen in horror films.
this, their second film together, is a specially written screenplay that only includes a reference to poe at the end with the swinging pendulum. a marvellous and imaginative scene.
the plot is a conspiracy to drive vincent price insane by convincing him that his wife isn't quite so dead after all. over the course of the film, you will witness price give one of his definitive performances. as the supporting cast don't add up to much, it is left to vincent price to carry the film acting wise and he ... An alternative title could be: 'Mad Madeline'!

'The Fall Of The House Of Usher' is an odd film. It's comparatively short (just one and a quarter hours) yet can seem considerably longer. A meagre cast with very little happening for most of its duration. However, this is based on a novel by Edgar Allen Poe, (which I have not yet read but intend to) and I should imagine that the book is probably more atmospheric. Not that the movie did not try to capture this, but somehow the house interior for me was just not 'creepy' enough. The guy's distinctive 1950s hairstyle did not help...

This is a movie for some reason I watch time and time again - not sure why though.

As a general rule, I am not especially drawn to horror films - even those which have a strong vein of comedy running through them - but Theatre of Blood (Douglas Hickox, 1973) is one of the exceptions.

Firstly, it has a very imaginative premise:- Ham Shakespearean actor forced out of his profession by a "circle" of theatre critics decides to revenge himself on the lot of them, by murdering them one by one in ways that have been directly lifted from Shakespeare's plays. He is assisted in this by a new "company of players" he has recruited from the ranks of London's down and outs. At this point, Theatre of Blood reminded me of Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange which came out a couple of years earlier. And it's none the worse for that.

It states that this DVD is 2.35 widescreen. This is incorrect, it actualy plays at 1.85 widescreen. The picture quality is still good, but not as good as it would of been at 2.35. It^s still a very good light comedy though.

This was the excellent template used for the more famous and magnificent Theatre of Blood. All the elements are the same as this film's: The master of his profession who's been terribly wronged by lesser fools, now deranged by the injustice, takes diabolical revenge on them; he designs suitably insane deaths for each of them based upon a theme; he is aided by his insanely loyal daughter to achieve his aim. Even Theatre of Blood's use of strange zombie like henchmen is taken from this film. Technically this film is let down by slack directing, rather dull dialogue for the type of film it is, and in comparison to Theatre of Blood, a cast of 2nd tier character actors who do not engage you as much as they should. Also, its sudden ending without an obvious resolution would definitely have been a let ... Read More:
