I can't add too much to what has been said in the other reviews.

Candyman is one of the finest atmospheric horror films ever made. The film doesn't rely on any teenage bimbos or hunks as most horror films do today and the whole film is shot to perfection around Chicago. You feel like this could actually be happening. This is one of those rare films that you actually do feel a sense of dread the whole time.

The only note to add is the DVD I got did not match the picture shown.

I'm not complaining as who can at £2.98.

sideways has recieved many good reviews but i must write this as a warning to anybody thinking of buying this film. the characters are completely unlikable. Miles, the central character, although clearly wounded by a life full of regrets, remains grumpy, pedantic and quite frankly much too self indulgent and self-pitying for us to feel any affection for him. the wine chat which initially sparks some interest as it makes nice use of adjective prose quite quickly becomes dull and pretentious. wine chat also is not sexy and there is a particularly clumsy scence where this becomes painfully obvious.I generally like films which explore sensitive and gentle charcters but this was a terrible diasapointment and if i had the choice again i would save my four ... Really good value for three films that are sure to please the kids (and tbh adults as well). Yes the 3rd film in the boxset is a cartoon but that didn't stop my son loving every minute of each film within the boxset.

Great value for money :)

I've been wanting to see this film for ages but been putting it off due to the bad reviews on here. Well last night I watched it and was very pleasantly surprised, I actually thought it was pretty good.

I found the beginning all a bit weird and wondered where this film was going but as I watched more, I was definitely drawn in and glued to my tv for the rest of the movie. I don't normally like Jim Carey but I thought he was excellent in this film. There are some good twists and turns along the way and it all comes together at the end. I really enjoyed watching this and it was great to find something that bit different to all the same old films out there! I would recommend it.

The hallmarks of Robert Altman's style are here, including a fantastic ensemble cast, overlapping dialogue, a camera that wanders around the action (though that is the wrong word: this film contains virtually no action in the conventional sense of the word) and actors.

But this is a far gentler, nostalgic, elegaic film than, say, MASH, Nashville, Short Cuts or, for that matter, any of his other films. Maybe this is because Altman had "mellowed" by the time he made what was to be his last film, but given the rest of his career this seems unlikely. A more likely influence is the bone dry wit of his main collaborator Garrison keillor, upon whose writings and radio broadcasts the film his based. I would never have thought of them as natural collaborators, ... Read More:

Firewall is probably Harrison Ford's worst film, and he has made some excellent movies in the past, like Frantic, The Indiana Jones series, The Fugitive and many more, but this sadly isn't one. It's not Harrison that's the bad thing; a combination of annoying bad guys and bad plot make this rather cringe worthy. The worst thing about it all is the bad guys, they really are just poor beyond belief. I'm surprised Jack Stanfield didn't punch this guy!

The gist is quite simple: some guys come and kidnap (well so called) and try to get Jack to get them inside his bank and make off with a few million in their Cayman Island accounts.

There's just so much that's not good about this movie: it's slow, there's not much action for an intense thriller with ... Read More:

This film was released in 1983 in perhaps the height of the infamous “Brat Pack” series of movies and with the two stars of this movie being prominent members this film slots nicely into the feel and mood of the time.

Jonathan Onger (Andrew McCarthy) is the new boy at a wealthy looking prep-school. We see him being sent off at the bus station by his very humble looking mum and dad and his initial awkwardness as he stumbled around the hallowed halls of the new school looking for his room. When he eventually finds it he is welcomed with open arms by his new roommate, the grandly named Franklin 'Skip' Burroughs IV (Rob Lowe) or “Skip” to his friends. Much to Jonathan’s surprise Skip peels off his dressing gown to reveal he’s wearing ... Read More:

I refused to watch this film for some time after it was made - this was because I do not like re-makes of any picture, and I was so in love with the original, I did not want to see another version of it. However, I suppose mere curiosity got the better of me! There are two sides of approaching this film; one very critical, and the other, well, let's not say exactly acclaim, but 'different' would be a better word. I will begin with the criticisms;

Firstly, this movie relies totally upon special effects, and without these, you have absolutely nothing... Any viewer expecting more will most certainly be disappointed - whether you've seen the original or not! The second thing is, the story; Shirley Jackson would be spinning in her grave if she knew for one moment ... Read More:

DVD : Dune [1984]
Cannot believe the write up Amazon has given for this DVD box-set, this edition has nothing to do with the David Lynch theatrical version(that has the Princess providing the narration)or the Alan Smithee TV version (which has an undisclosed man narrating and the famous spitting scene) of the James Herbert classic SF novel both starring Kyle MacLachlan and Sting. It is in fact the SCIFI Channel production and a great job they do of it as well.

A much tidier production than the Lynch/Smithee films, the story and the portrayal of the characters is both enthralling and sympathetic to the spirit of the Herbert novels. Not one to sit and watch a three hour film myself I was enjoying watching Dune (2000) so much so that I let my beer get warm and my cigarettes went unsmoked. Sure I was ... Read More:
