How times change - i remember seeing this about 20 years ago, and loving it, mainly because it had certain personal echoes with a relationship about that time. Having recently seen it again, whilst it remains a fascinating 'light' movie set in a particular time, looking at the politics of that time, Streisand's performance seems very dated, very much a 'Hollywood star performance' I'm very aware of the ego of the actress in here, and began, in my head, watching a different film, wanting to see someone like Susan Sarandon in the role, someone who could turn in a leading lady charismatic performance whilst keeping HERSELF out of the way, and letting the character take centre stage.

Redford manages to be himself in a more covert way, ... Read More:

This 1993 film is one of the few films not made in Hi-def to make the grade by being transferred onto Blu-Ray. Colours glow as does the overall detail of the sets and costums. The sound track in DTS HD is excellent.

If only all transfers were up to this standard.

Back in ancient Giza a large circular artefact is buried under some capstones. Later in the 1920s an archaeological dig uncovers the 'stone' ring and various items of jewellery all dedicated to the Egyptian sun god Ra. Then in the 1990s, Dr Daniel Jackson, a radical Egyptologist who is widely disbelieved by the academic community is co-opted into a project run by the USAF, a project researching the large ring. Jackson with his differing interpretation of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs rapidly solves the problem of the ring showing it to be a transportation device, a Stargate. Together with a USAF commando team lead by the recently returned from retirement Colonel Jack O'Neill, Jackson and co. head through the Stargate to another world; a world populated ... Read More:

Dr. Daniel Jackson (James Spader of "Wolf" 1994 popularity) does the unthinkable by even suggesting that The Ancient Egyptian Civilization may have been influenced by outside influences, very outside influences. This runs off all inquiries to his theories.

Her secret will change the life of Daniel and Col. Jonathan 'Jack' O'Neil (Kurt Russell). Turns out that they will have a mission that will take them on a sojourn to the other end of the known universe. We go with them. What will we find and will we be able to bet back?

The Story of Ruth is one of Fox's lesser known Biblical epics, from the days when the combination of CinemaScope and the Old Testament suddenly weren't enough to guarantee profits anymore. It's not hard to see why: despite an intelligent script by Norman Corwin, it's a bit on the dull side and tends to drag its feet at times. Strangely, it's the scenes in pagan Moab that are the least effective, for all the promise of human sacrifice and slave pits, though Tom Tryon does offer the film's strongest performance in that section. Just as strangely, despite being a last-minute replacement for Stephen Boyd and looking like he won the part in a miscasting competition, Stuart Whitman is surprisingly good as Boaz in the more enjoyable, though distinctly soap-operish ... DVD : The Sure Thing [1985]
This was the first Cusack movie I ever saw, and though he has since starred in many Hollywood greats (notably Being John Malkovic and High Fidelity) it still remains my favourate Cusack movie.
The film follows the adventures of two dipolar college students thrown together on a cross-country journey one summer. John Cusack plays the slobbish slacker up against Zuniga's straight-laced intellectual. Whilst the story-line itself doesn't have any shocking twists or turns, it's the dialogue between the two central characters that gives the film it's value. Their contrasting 'odd couple' personalities light up the film the whole way through and clever script-work provides a generous helping of laughs mixed with genuinely heart-warming scenes. Whilst the format of the average road ... Read More:
