The synopsis for this prodoct is awful:

'The story of the fragile sentimentalism of a former prostitute who visits her sister only to be taunted mercilessly by her childish brother-in-law.'

First, the point of the play was that she wasn't meerly a prostitue- not to mention that we are never explicitly told that she is. Only that she slept around for shelter and food. This is not your average prostution as the synopsis makes out. Also, he brother-in-law isn't just 'childish'- what a stupid thing to say. He has been working class his whole life and is resentful that someone with an 'easy like' (in his opinion) is here lying to people and acting like she is better. He doesnt 'taunt' her like a child. He destroys her sanity further, ... Read More:

Yes,this is a 70 year old movie and it has dated somewhat- but what entertainment value you get on this 4 disc DVD- it is without doubt one of the best DVDs ever released and the picture quality is as good as if it was made in the last few years. They don't make movies like this anymore and they never will again but at least we and future generations can always appreciate Gable and Leigh at their best and believe me millions of viewers will still be watching them in 100 years time when present so called movie stars will be long forgotten.

I've watched this film only once, so far, and I was instantly engulfed by the power of the story-telling from the genius that is Tennessee Williams. Directed with sensitivity and real charisma by the legendary Elia Kazan, he gives great performances from his leading actors and supporting cast (Vivien Leigh, Marlon Brando, Karl Malden and Kim Hunter).

Blanche Dubois (Vivien Leigh) arrives home to New Orleans and stay with her sister, Stella Kowalski (Kim Hunter), after a long time away and finds herself entangled in the life of Stella and her husband Stanley Kowalski (Marlon Brando). The tension, sexual tension and the adrenaline mounts between Blanche, Stella and Stanley. There's a scene when Stanley and friends are playing cards at his house and he loses his ... Read More:

This is an excellent view of showing how a simple crime can be hideously misinterpreted leading to a gross miscarriage of justice .

The observations of people from their aspects can lead to huge errors is beutifully borne out by the clever script .

The various perspectives sound very logical yet we know the wrong man is being implicated as the serial killer but hitchcock wants us to derive at the final conclusion -is circumstantial evidence ever enough to accuse and convict a person .

He has intelligently answered the query and left us to make our own conclusions regarding the controversial issue.

There is a typically humoresque subplot about the merits of marital life and the culinary delights of french cuisine which the master has ... Read More:

DVD : That Hamilton Woman [1941]
In 1941 Alexander Korda directed one of the best films of the 1940s and even of all time.Staring Laurence Olivier(Henry V) as Lord Nelson and Vivien Leigh (Gone with the Wind)as Emma Hamilton.Made in World War 2 can be clearly seen as a bit of a proganda film of the time. This film took 6 weeks to film and every scene looks fresh you wouldnt get a movie done that quick these days. From there first meeting in Italy to the scene where Lady Hamilton is informed of Lord Nelsons death at the Battle of Trafalgar the movie is classic story telling the likes of what seem to be extintc some times. This was Winston Churchills favorite movie probabaly due to it being very proud of being british and the hidden messages about defending you country and freedom.A true classic of a movie shame it hasnt got a proper ...
