What really makes this film a joy to watch is Don Siegels ability as a story teller. He has an uncanny ability to avoid the pitfalls of less professional directors. He is not trying to change the world, or blow your mind with amazement, instead he completely understands the scope of his project and presents the material in a simple streamlined mannor, completely uncluttered of any pretentious notion of trying to make the ultimate sprawling epic. Nothing is overtly dramatized here, there are no soppy Spielbergian moments, no grandiose speaches, no orchestra swells. He knew this was pure entertainment and let it play for exactly what it is. It is this approach that has not only held this film in relative obscurity through the years, but also makes ... Read More:

"you keep leaving notes on my pillow, it took me 4 hours to realise that 'FU' stood for Felix Unger"

This is a classic Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau film and should be in any collection of dvds.
The sequel, although entertaining, is no where near is brilliant as this masterpiece. A film you will want to watch over and over again.
Without wanting to spoil it for those that have never seen it, it's about 2 friends who become enemies after one (Jack Lemmon) moves in with Oscar (Walter Matthau) after his wife has left him. The entertainment begins as soon as the film starts and does not end until the final credits. If this film does not make you cry with laughter I'm not sure anything will. Although I would perhaps try 'Some ... Read More:

I bought the DVD 'Candy' for a friend of mine who loves films of that era. I managed to find the time to watch it before handing it over to him. Although it definitely is not a great film, I loved watching it because it reminds those of us over 50 that life was good in the past. The film contains all of those things that are now considered politically incorrect and we, all of us, are poorer for it. The film contains a rape scene, up-skirting shots, unprofessional behaviour from the medical profession and truly humourous lines and scenes that left me rollicking in laughter. The only reason that I am writing this review is to give due credit to Ewa Aulin, without whom the film would not have been as good. She did not even get a mention on the cover. Yes, the ... I saw the last 75% of this on TV and immediately knew I needed to buy it.
Being somewhat cautious of old films transferred to DVD, on delivery I set aside a few minutes to check the quality. Over two hours later, after also viewing the excellent 'making of' feature, I realised I had missed an important appointment. On ringing up to apologise and explain, ruffled feathers were instantly soothed when they knew it was Hopscotch that had distracted me.
It is light and warm, villans are suitably discomforted, but there is no violence, and almost no bad language either apart from the bad guy - Ned Beatty's 'Myerson', the CIA boss Matthau dislikes so much.
There are numerous subtle deft touches that one might miss on a first viewing; it is beautifully ... Read More:

Would steer clear of this DVD release. Terrible picture and muffled sound makes for unpleasant viewing of this great film.

The hijack story was prevalent in the 1970s but it was of course always planes. we now know that hi jacking planes can be a deadly activity with 9/11.

The imagination of writers is a thing to behold. The films starts with the incredulity of the train operators who laugh at the idea of someone trying to hijack a subway train.

As one characters say " Let them keep it we have plenty of them". The hijacking was easy enough and the story builds as it centres not on the hostages who we do not get to know as individuals.

No one was worked out how after they have got the money how they are going to escape. they are trapped in a tunnel and their every move is being monitored from above.

It is all about how the authorities react ... Read More:

The Odd Couple (the first one), has to be, in my book, and countless others too, the funniest film ever made. So, naturally, I bought the 2nd one.
Walter Matthau couldn't be anything but funny. He only has to be there to be funny and The Odd Couple 2 is no exception. He is brilliant.
But Jack Lemmon?
And Neil Simon?
Well, lets face it, Jack Lemmon has grown old ungracefully. He has a whole new array of virgin white teeth which makes him look unusually youthful around the lower jaw. This doesn't fit in with the rest of him. He is visibly not at ease making a film about being in one's dotage; maybe he prefers to be remembered as the sprightly Daphne in Some Like It Hot and the fabulously neurotic Felix in The Odd Couple 1.
And Neil Simon? Well, he has made ... Read More:

This has to be the best film Elvis ever made. From the opening scene with Elvis singing "Crawfish" to the very end, this film rocks! Elvis shows great acting talent, sings great songs and the storyline is strong. If you only buy one Elvis film, this should be it.I've watched it half-a-dozen times and my wife over 40 times. The story is of Danny rebelling against the direction his parents would like him to take, falling for the right girl and then the wrong girl with a little fisticuffs along the way.Recommended fun for all ages.Buy it and enjoy.

Excellent film, happily first viewed by myself courtesy of the good old BBC in the 70's, way back when they still showed decent films at Christmas (The Apartment etc) and every bit as enjoyable when watched again this weekend, & heaven knows on how many other occasions over the years!!.
I originally purchased this on the sadly dying Laserdisc format, but migrated when released on DVD for the convenience of not having to wrestle with 2 old disks and four sides. Think MGM have used the very same print for this issue as the minor imperfections in an otherwise superb image appear identical. Just go and buy it and immerse yourself in the fun, not sure why anyone would find the characters annoying, or feel that the film does not really go anywhere. The story finally returns full circle after closure of ... Read More:

DVD : JFK - Special Edition Directors Cut (2 Disc Edition) [1991]
Why does the film JFK work? It confirms what most people know to be the truth. That JFK was assassinated by a conspiracy. Whether Clay Shaw was involved or not may never be known but just because there has never been a confession by the powers that be doesnt mean the majority of the ordinary people are silly. (You cannot shoot someone in the back of the head for the head to go backwards. Thats just silly. Its so obvious to the eye that the second shot was fired from the front. The magic bullet theory was also silly. How can a bullet cause so much damage to two men and still look pristine? What happened to the president's brain? Where did it disappear when it was meant to be examined to get the bullet trajectory? Why was a proper autopsy not conducted? How could the chief suspect be killed in a building ... Read More:
