Ignore those who say that this doesn't do justice to the books - it's different, yes, but in a good way. What's the point in sitting down to watch something that's EXACTLY like the book, or complaining because it doesn't EXACTLY match what you thought it should look like? The BBC made an amazing job of what was almost impossible to film, and the cast is just perfect. Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays Steerpike with more than a touch of genius, and the chemistry between him and Fuchsia is spot-on... Everything about this is awe-inspiring; the sets, the scripts, the acting. Admittedly, Warren Mitchell's portrayal of Barquentine is more comical and capricious than the fearsome and powerful character in the book, but it works. Likewise, Irma Prunesquallor ... Read More:

Bloody classic alf garnett,
I have the previous 72-74 series on dvd and was waiting foe these gems to come out and im so glad they did.
I just love alfs take on life although biggoted and bad tempered you cant help laughing at his reasoning.
I wont give you a run down on the episodes but just to say theses gems are well worth collecting before the P.C pundits try and ban them or they go discontinued.
I pre ordered the christmas specials back in september and cant wait for them to be finaly released.
Sad to see else finaly pass away but alf does not lose his opinions on life and the welfare state.
Winston is a brilliant addition to the family and upstages alf in most episodes mrs hollingberry starts off as alfs nemises ... Read More:

The second series of 'In Sickness & In Health' begins with the aftermath of Else's funeral. With his wife gone, Alf automatically loses half of his pension, even though he faces the same steep bills each month. The landlady, Mrs.Hollingbery ( Carmel McSharry ) hates his guts, becoming convinced that Alf wants to molest her so she locks him first out of his flat and then in his bedroom. But things eventually cool between them. When Alf's old neighbour Min ( Patricia Hayes ) turns up in the final episode, along with her senile sister Gwenneth ( Irene Handl ), war breaks out between the women.

Una Stubbs appears in almost every episode as Alf's daughter Rita. The timing of this release is especially sad as Ken Campbell, who played Alf's garrulous ... Read More:

Alf Garnet has to be one of the strongest British sit-com characters of all time. The fact that he was no more than a strong version of many real life Alf Garnets always gave him a bit more weight over some of the more cartoonish characters in sit-com land. So, not only was Alf responsible for making the TV show TDUDP one of the longest running sit-coms in history, but he sort of was rsponsible for it being so one dimensional and a bit claustraphobic feeling because of Alf's tiny world.

But boy, is Alf a character that lingers in the memory! I put this film on and I was pretty staggered at how fresh his character still was, or timeless looking. It has to be, I thought, because characters like that still do exist, and probably always will. Maybe there aren't ... Read More:

'Top Secret' is one of the comedies from Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker. During the years they have brought the wonderful 'Airplane!', the very funny 'Naked Gun'-series, two 'Hot Shots!'-movies, 'Jane Austen's Mafia!' and 'Rat Race'. This movie belongs in that list of very funny movies. It is not as good as 'Airplane!' or the first 'Naked Gun' but it comes close.

Val Kilmer is Nick Rivers, an American rock n' roll singer, who comes to East-Germany. To tell you the truth I can't remember really why he did that, but of course that doesn't matter very much. In East-Germany he meets Hillary Flammond (Lucy Gutteridge). Her father is imprisoned by the East-German regime and Nick wants to help Hillary to find him back. The movie is not really about the plot but ... Read More:

Warren Mitchell - The Thoughts Of Chairman Alf [1994]

The low rating it not for the show the show is real great had it on VHS for years. The low rating is for some stupid idea that they had making it a GREEN packaging so DVD comes in cardboard box NO plastic so it is only slid into cardboard slot which falls out & rattles & bangs it's way to your door scratched in the process. Then when taking it in & out again you have to push it into this rough cardboard slot so really what is this suppose to be doing? Ok it is biodegradable but surely if it was packed right in plastic box it would not get scratched & have to be binned anyway.
It defeats object SONY/BMG think in future your not being clever just cheap & tacky.
If I knew it come in such a cheap ... Read More:
