Dirty Dancing is one of those movies that you either love or hate. Watching it again over 20 years after its first release, it was funny this time around to register a social and cultural subtext and to recognise what a macho thug Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) really was: after he has beaten up the preppy waiter Robbie Gould, Baby doesn't seem worried at all that he might one day turn his fist on her; in fact she cuddles him tenderly! Baby (Jennifer Grey) was more sexually assertive than I had remembered: it is she and not Johnny who initiates the movement of their relationship onto the next level by laying her romantic feelings bare. These days I refuse to watch most CGI movies, mainly because they can run them off a mill as many times a year as they want. For me, Toy Story 2 represents the pinnacle of Computer based films. Touching, funny, and even better looking than its predecessor, this is easily one of the greats from Pixar. I say this now because with such average attempts over the recent years such as Antz, Madagascar, and Cars, the 90's proved that its better to wait 3/4 years for a film that's quality, rather than a glut of lame attempts to cash in. It sounds and looks even better than the video version of course (believe me, the colours are enhanced hundreds of times better than on the video) and should be bought with the original!

Season 8 of Seinfeld immediately follows on from the story at the end of the previous season finale, where George's fiance Susan Ross dies. He is now single and free but Susan's parents appoint him to help run a charitable foundation in honour of her memory. This means more work and it causes much angst for George in several episodes. Jerry meanwhile continues to meet some unusual characters, both men and women, making his usual observations and no friends along the way. Kramer is still living off Jerry and getting into mad schemes whereas Elaine becomes the boss at J Peterman's clothing catalogue. What a film this is!!It is a firm favourite with myself, my 2 sisters, and my daughter, and we range in age from 22 to 50!! The film is great, the dancing is fantastic, the sound track is wonderful, it has everything a girl could want. It recently won a poll for the best chick-flick of all time, and I know, because I voted for it!! It is one to watch over and over. Patrick Swayze is SO fine, and yes, we would all LOVE to have been Jennifer Grey.I know that it was made on quite a low budget, but what a success it has been. I think in 20 years time, it will STILL be voted best chick-flick, and what more can I say? The time of our lives? You bet!!

Space Jam as a movie has always held a special place in my heart. Being 12 years old as of this review, I have to say this movie has aged really well. Starring a real comic legend in Bill Murray and an acting great, Danny DeVito doing a voice over; this movie was destined to succeed. The real surprise for everyone was the performance of Michael Jordan. Although not exactly Sidney Poitier he did his job of being the face of this movie and when you make a movie with basketball as the main focus, you couldn't not have Michael Jordan. This is truly a hilarious comedy programme, filled with both amazingly retarded storylines, including a hotile alien trying to turn Earth into "Monkey World". And brilliant characters in the form of Dick Solomon, the high commander struggling to appear normal. Sally Solomon, the security officer who forms a relationship with a cop nowhere near as attractive (played by Wayne Knight). Tommy Solomon, the infformation officer trying to be a normal teenager desperate to impress his girlfriends (to the point of going out to a prostitude to lose his virginity before prom night). This is one of the best murder mysteries to come out of the Nineties, and probably for some time before or since. It's Hitchcockian without being an homage. Mike Church, a private detective in Los Angeles, is called on to try to identify a young woman (Emma Thompson), given the name Grace by the Catholic order which took her in, who at first is mute.
