This movie is worth buying for the amazing special effects and for the stunning scenes of post-apocalyptic New York. Will Smith puts in a solid performance as (almost) sole survivor of the 'zombie' plague, ably supported by his canine co-star. The first hour or so of the movie is fast-paced and dramatic as the story unfolds. Unfortunately, it then moves down a gear or so, loses its way, and almost peters out with a most unsatisfactory and unresolved ending. A missed opportunity, as a little further development of the story would have made such a difference.

2 good performances, but what a sad message. I presumed that the film was a typical, liberal bashing of the "greed is good" ethos of the '80s...but it ends up celebrating it!

This film is 'I Am Legend' in name only, it bears very little relation to the book of the same name. This aside, it is a fairly good movie with post apocalyptic themes and a storyline that will keep you interested for the 96 minutes duration. Will Smith plays the role of the relationship starved army medical researcher well. You really feel for him when he talks to mannequins and at his relationship with his dog. The action is pretty good, although the computer graphics left a lot to be desired, both the various animals and the 'dark seekers' seemed very dated compared to other computer graphics films. This is an OK film, that should keep you watching until the end. As long as you don't expect a faithful rendering of the book you should be fine. Watch ... Read More:

I have not written a review for quite some time and after reading and hearing some of the negative criticism about this film i felt i had to give my opinion after watching it last week. In fact i almost didn't watch it based on some of the complaints i heard, such as: "The C.G.I. monsters are awful and really fake looking", "The ending sucks", erm yeah and that's about it, I don't think I've heard an other issues with it.
SO, first of all this is not a typical action film, the Initial scenes echo loneliness and desolation, and I felt these scenes were truly amazing to behold, evoking sadness and compassion, seeing the wild-life roaming free in a once never sleeping city and the plant life breaking it's way through the concrete is truly breathtaking and allows ... Very impressed with this blu-ray transfer of Independence Day, the picture is crisp tho has some obvious signs of grain as the film is 12 years old now, but the sound really blew me away, particulary the scene when the mothership gets blown up at the end..unbelievable.. overall this is probably the best quality you will get for this film, a good purchase!

Reviews of this film are pretty split and rightly so, it is a film that provokes many reactions. Many of the negative ones falling on the side of anti-Americanism. To those people I would ask a simple question: given a choice between the America portrayed in this film and that which we have today in 2008 which would you take?. Is this not the film that proves the logic of the Lacanian signifier, that its efficacy only appears after the fact; with S2, the signifier that grants significance to S1. S2 in this case being the attacks on September the 11th 2001, S1 being of course this film. Those images which drew crowds in 1996 were made flesh on the streets of New York and Washington, Americas unconscious lust for apocalypse breaks forth from the screen. In 1996 those ridiculous ... This film was based on a novel by Steven Pressfield but the real inspiration was from the Hindu Epic The Mahabaharata where there is an interesting conversation that leads to the holiest of Hindu Scriptures known as the Bhagavad Gita. Will Smith as Bagger Vance (pronounced in an Indian way as Bhagawan; another name for Krishna) is brilliant and is ably supported by Matt Damon as R. Junuh (alternatively pronounced as Arjuna). The story shows Smith as a caddy and also spiritual guide to Damon...as in the Bhagavad Gita.
A nice, tender film at the hand of writer/director Robert Redford. Matt Damon is the leading man in this film as a former golfer that brushes up on his talents of the past, whilst Will Smith plays a supporting guardian angel type of character which he carries ... Read More:

This wasn't a particularly amusing movie and I would say its strongest point was its special effects. The story lacked credibility and failed to draw me into the world the writers had tried to create. This was largely because Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith just didn't seem as scared of the aliens as I think people would be in real life ( particularly aliens this ugly and nasty)and there was no development of characters - their personalities were exactly the same at the end of the film as they were at the beginning.I'd heard a lot about Men In Black and I've gotta say that it is overrated and the 1980s film Ghostbusters with Bill Murray is funnier and way more interesting to watch.

I am a huge fan of all comedy programmes and i have to say this is definately up there with my favourites, ok its not exactly very mature (though it does raise interesting issues, honest) I have always loved it, and was abit worried as to how this would work with johnny.. So i was a little put off to watch it. Then i saw they were doing it live! Which appealed to me so i switched on, and it was magnifecent! They pulled off some pretty damn good stuff!
So i continued watching the whole series and i loved it as mush as the other series, Gaz and Janet actualy make a great couple, and the new character isnt too bad.
Dont let the fact that johnny isnt in it put you off, give this a try and see what you think, because i think its great and so should everybody else :D
