These are brilliant suspense / shoot 'em up films. Classic stuff, and while the first is the best by a wide margin, they're all worth owning. Great fun.

I've always loved this film, I had it on tape for years. It's a great story, intelligent, with superb acting. Other reviews say it all

What did annoy me was that the DVD is two-sided. You have to watch half the film, then turn the DVD over to watch the other half. This isn't going to be enough to irritate everybody but it really irrited me, and I really wouldn't have bought it if I'd known about the format.

I'm the lazy type who likes to settle down, surrounded by food, and not get up again until the film is finished and there's no food left. Like I said, not going to bother everybody but still worth knowing.

Jarhead starts out in boot camp with new recruits and a sadistic drill instructor - and you think you know what is coming next. Bonding, heroism and death in the heat of battle. But that is not how Jarhead goes.

Instead what we get is a realistic(ish) view of the experience a youg marine in the period leading up to and including the first gulf war. We see young men driven half crazy with boredom and frustration as they wait for the war to start. It is an unjudgemental film that is uncomfortable viewing at times.

I lags a bit a points - difficult to make boredom interesting - and while I haven't read the autobiography this is based on it is clear some events have have been changed to increase the drama.

Die Hard is probably the greatest action film ever made and so much was riding on this transfer. Well, it's pretty good actually! I've seen reviews that rate it as 3/5 from critics (picture quality) but it's actually a bit better then that. The 3D feeling is in effect and the colours are nice too. The sound is DTS 5.1 and it sounds great through a sorround system. The picture could be better in close ups with hair and beards ect... the faces (pores)aren't as sharp as they should be. This isn't a demo disc but it's not as bad as reported. It is worth the upgrade from the DVD with a 3.5/5 transfer. Not bad for a film that's twenty years old.

General I am not the greatest fan of Tom Cruise (this is actually the only film of his I will willingly watch) but I am a great fan of Japanese history and culture and although this film makes Braveheart and 300 look historically accurate in places I still greatly enjoyed it and consider it to be one of my all time favourite films.

The film sees the drunken American Army Captain Nathan Algren hired by the modernising Japanese government to train their troops to fight the rebel Samurai leader Katsumoto. When Algren is captured in battle, however, he comes to get to know his enemy and get to know the Samurai way of life.

As I have already stated I am a fan of Far Eastern history and as such I must say that this film does terribly butcher ... Read More:

DVD : Centennial: The Complete Series (REGION 1) (NTSC)
As a rule, mini series have aspired to the label `epic'. By having starrier cast names, bigger sets, and of course more worldwide locations. This early mini series from the late 70's did something different - it kept the same location - the fictional town of Centennial, and charted the creation and evolution of the land and then the town, and the people that came and had an impact. So instead of the characters being large and the locations serving to tell us about the characters, the people are the ephemeral ones, passing through and hoping to leave their stamp on history. It's typical Michener in its style, and works perfectly in the mini series format - elegiac, rather than just epic.
So the story unfolds over 26 hours of TV of a beautiful bend in the ... Read More:

John McClane is back! This time it's an airport he has to save from destruction - and he's pretty much alone on his crusade. When he sees a gang of misfits breaking into the luggage area, John gets rightfully suspicious; but the Captain thinks it's just punks fooling around. How wrong is he?

With John facing an apocalypse if he doesn't restore control, and he's got few friends, and a lot of enemies including mercs and the lack of cooperation from the police.

Another fine film, thankfully remastered for Blu-Ray disk. The picture is beautiful and full framed, running at a staggering 30MB/s average, and the tru-HD sound at 20MB/s is absolutely amazing. It really does feel like you're in the cinema. There are two languages: French and Spanish, ... Read More:

This has some great action and good lines. It's a good film and the stunts have some great moments to them. Well worth buying.

Tom Cruise (not on my list of great actors) does his best to spoil this film ... but at least he fails (until the end!)

The positives: The film gathers pace nicely with a fairly spectacular battle at the end. The cinematography is excellent with fabulous locations (what is it about New Zealand?) and great atmospheric shots. The costumes are superb and the Japanese characters are generally well portrayed. Thank goodness we actually had the Japanese speak Japanese (with subtitles), rather than having a bunch of actors with fake accents.

The negatives: Spectacularly contrived ending with just one survivor. Guess who!!! (Tom, if you have a clause in your contract which doesn't allow your character to die in a film, PLEASE delete it! We missed out on a much ... Read More:

I heard about this film from the Weird Al song Albuquerque in which the film is mentioned in the context of a nightmare plane flight ending in a crash into a hillside, this is the 'in-flight movie'. Truly it deserves to remain in this context.

I have already revealed myself as a fan of Weird Al so obviously appreciate stupid American comedy however this effort is truly awful. I have never witnessed a film where the main characters are so irritating and repelant. I believe I laughed two times during the course of this movie and my standards were probably lowered through watching it in the first place.

In conclusion I borrowed this DVD from a friend and am glad I didn't waste my money on it, neither should you.
