My MP Ann Cryer is in this film as an extra.

One of the best childrens films ever made in the UK. Jenny Agutter recently made another version ( her third; she was in the BBC serial of the same book prior to this version) this time playing the mother. However it was not as good and lacked the charm of Lionel Jeffries version.

A must for lovers of trains and Yorkshire.

DVD : The Railway Children [1970]/Swallows and Amazons [1974]
As the other reviewers have remarked, neither film can be faulted, they are both good old-fashioned adventure yarns which are sadly lacking in the present day. Zero sex or violence, just lashings of ginger beer, steam engines and good old public schoolboy accents.

What lets this release down is presentation. The Railway Children boasts an anamorphic widescreen print which, generally free of dirt, is lacking the full restoration it deserves. Where are the commentaries by the original children, or documentary on how the film was made? This film cries out for supplementary material but doesn't get it.

Swallows and Amazons features a full frame print, coverd in scratches, compression artifacts and is generally very grotty looking, ... Read More:

Come on guys - don't knock this film so much. Yes, its dated, poor sound quality, a bit overlong but also totally eccentric and in many ways a classic. This film has philosophy, social satire, great humour, musical numbers, burlesque strip-tease, romantic interest and a distinctly dark side.

There's some great acting, especially by Peter O'Toole who beautifully plays the eccentric 14th Earl of Gurney who, upon his father's bizarrely fetishistic death, inherits the title. The only problem is he's barking mad, having spent the last 8 years in volunatary confinement in a loony bin. He releases himself from the institution to reclaim his inheritance.

Unfortunately he is convinced he is Jesus Christ and due to his erratic behaviour, his family ... Read More:

everyone knows that phil silvers of sgt.bilko fame got the role as sid james was too ill to do this 1967 movie, the producer thought that a big name could fill the void,it couldnt, plus they feed silvers ego by letting him perform some of his own material and staring straight down the camera one time too often,as if he is trying to bond with the audience. However in saying that carry on camel is still a good movie featuring kenny williams, angie ouglas, bernie bresslaw, peter butterworth, joan sims, and jim dale and this film deals with the french foreign legion from the training to the moment of battle, filmed in a beach in england, brighton i think, the film still looks as if it is filmed abroad, the film is witty in what it does but some leading members play second fiddle to silvers,i ... DVD : Miss Marple - Murder Ahoy [1964]
When elderly spinster Jane Marple (played by Margaret Rutherford) attends a meeting of trustees for a training ship for juvenile delinquents, and one of her fellow trustees drops dead under mysterious circumstances, she realizes that it is time for her to investigate.

I must admit that my wife and I chanced across this Miss Marple movie after having become great fans of Joan Hickson's interpretation of the role, and were not too happy with it. Later, however, having accepted that this is not Joan Hickson's Miss Marple, but accepting it for its self, we came to love this movie. Margaret Rutherford brings a real presence to the role, adding a touch of humor, and making the story (not actually written by Agatha Christie, but a good mystery nonetheless) quite entertaining. ... DVD : The Foreman Went To France [1942]
In 1940 deep in France, three special purpose machines sent from Britain to turn out guns for fighter planes sit in an abandoned factory right in the path of the advancing Germans. In London, one of the foreman from the British factory that produced the machines is determined to get them back to Britain. The Germans are just as determined to locate the machines. Fred Carrick (Clifford Evans), who can't speak French and has never travelled outside England, bulls his way through red tape and the optimism of his superiors that the French would never allow the machines to be captured. He winds up on a French train heading toward the town where the machines are located. When he gets there, he discovers an American young woman, Anne Stafford (Constance Cummings), who worked at the factory and who stayed ... Read More:
