I love how Van Helsing carried on from the original although it would have been nice to see Christopher Lee. This is my favorite Peter Cushing film. I live in America and originally I bought the R1 DVD included in "The Hammer Horror Series" boxset from universal but I had nasty results with the disks, Brides of Dracula being part of it so I bought a Multi Region DVD Player and bought this DVD and now am able to view one of my favorite Hammer/Peter Cushing films.

This is a great early sixties schlocker starring the always reliable Anton Diffring as a morally corrupt plastic surgeon obsessed with 'perfecting his technique', regardless of who and what gets in his way. Once accepted, the circus setting doesn't seem quite as far fetched as one might think and provides a few grisly opportunities for a bloody death here and there, the knife throwing piece being the best. On a par with mid range Hammer (which is still pretty good) and filled with some wonderfully warped characters, its well worth having if you're a horror fan of the period and like films of the Friday Night variety.

DVD : Night of Lust [1962] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
This was originally a French film, "Concerto de la peur", done by Jose Benazeraf. It was a tale of two gangs and two kidnappings, with a bit of sex and violence thrown in for good measure.

When it got to America it was cut down, dubbed and strip show inserts added. The storyline became incoherent so a voiceover was added for those who gave a damn. Otherwise all you get is a parade of strip acts, beatings and shootings, which is not as interesting as it sounds but a fascinating glimpse into the mind of a promoter.

The cut version was quite successful, but that's no recommendation either.
