To quote Jim Carrey in Cable Guy " I don't know what all the fuss was about, I thought that movie rocked, it ruled!". He's not far wrong even if he was a head-case, sure people complained about the scientific liklihood and blah blah. Honestly, who gives a damn ? Kevin Costner fights pirates on jet-ski's in a post-apocalyptic future, it's a cinch that this isn't a Ken Loach film. As such, the stunts effects and set-pieces all are top notch. Downside is that Costner has little in the way of charisma in the lead role, he has a haggard look about him, a bitter disposition and, appropriately maybe for a fish-man, a mullet hairstlye which made me feel ill. Quite ill.. In fact it should lose a point just for that. No that's cruel- i'll stick with ... Read More:

When I first saw this movie, I didn't know what to expect. I was very happy that I saw this but it had a lot of thematic and freaky elements. Dustin Hoffman and everybody else in the cast is really good and their performances were cool. A bunch of big named stars in this made this disease movie work. It showed how good the army would do if they had a disease that had an outbreak and it shows what risks they would take.

Overall the whole movie is really cool. The acting was great and the direction is good, too.

I believe this to be one of Marlon Brando's most underrated performances. The film itself is a splendid period piece of Apartheid South Africa. I rarely see this movie mentioned in biographical comment with regard to Brando's career, and yet, it is a stunning performance. I assume the lack of comment is the fact that he only played a supporting role, and that the subject of apartheid probably denied it a higher profile. As somebody who has lived in South Africa, both before and after apartheid, i cannot tell you how accurate the performance of Brando is in this role. There is no doubt in my mind that he must have studied meticulously before playing this part. I do not know why, but there are a large percentage of professional people in South Africa who have ... After viewing People Under The Stairs etc..I was somewhat hesitant in purchasing S&T.Rb (Serpent and The Rainbow) especially as it was made a lot earlier. I very much enjoy watching horror films, but personally, they need to have a good strong story, good acting, good camera work and music score when needed.

I purchased S&T.Rb a couple of weeks ago, and what my wife and I watched, was an excellent interlectual horror film. Haitians are very strong believers in Voodo and continues to this day.

What you watch is a very strong cast of actors and actresses, especially Bill Pulman and the wonderful and non-ageing Kathy Tyson !! sorry readers a little senstive when it comes to our Kathy Tyson !!

The story is NOT far-fetched ... Read More:

I agree that Eddie Murphy was good at portraying a vampire and this film was funny but it lacked what most films should have: An interesting storyline. If you want to watch this then i think you should rent it first to see if you like it and then buy it if you thought it was great. Everyone has their own opinion. Definitely not Eddie Murphy's greatest yet as nothing can beat the nutty professor. Eddie Murphy is great His character wasn't But some people where like the man that was describing the werewolf to the police. Make you decision about this one because I can't help you anymore. The Beast has spoken.

DVD : Dust Devil: The Final Cut [1993] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
The film making career of director Richard Stanley has to be one of the Film Industry's most wasted opportunities. Why hasn't this talented director made more films? His two complete films Dust Devil and Hardware are both visions of uniqueness and originality. It is both the Industry and the Film Goer who have lost out big time to the fact that Stanley has only made these two films and was ignominiously fired from a third - the most recent remake of The Island Of Dr Moreau.

Dust Devil was originally released in a severely edited version by its producers and distributors and with no marketing to speak of, quickly left cinemas and went straight onto video. Stanley has restored an approximately 20 mins of footage and the running time of the film is now 108 mins. The restoration ... Read More:

A saga of a group of medical students surviving their first year of medical school... very funny and realistic. Shows portray of typical medical students, ones wearing a tie every day and proclaiming their desire to be a surgeon to every doctor they meet. How stress is shared among medical students. But most are like the rest of the cast... real people surviving a surreal situation... medical school! The story is basically based on life of medical students.
A great movie for potential medical students to watch.

DVD : Dad [1989] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Does the name of Ted Danson ring any bell? It doesn't? No wonder, Ted was the "star" of some early 80s soap opera who wanted to become a real actor. Unfortunately, his choice for the path to stardom was the movie made of William Wharton's "Dad". The story had to be refashioned to be more glitzy - a painter became a businessman. The result is rather grim and, if you haven't read the novel, difficult to follow. The story is sad but moving - the book is saturated with nostalgia for what the heroes missed in life or realized too late to enjoy fully - the film is so so.
And there is one moderately funny bit - through the film Jack Lemmon and Olympia Dukakis look as if they both wanted to ask one and the same question - What am I doing in this movie??? They are doing their best but it is ... Read More:
