I loved Arthur Golden's novel `Memoirs of a Geisha' and tried to keep an open-mind about the film version. Although the film wasn't as `magical' as the novel, I thought it stood rather well.

"Memoirs of a Geisha" on screen, in my opinion, did capture some aspects of the novel. I thought the scenery (especially of the Japanese market) was well portrayed.

Although the film is visually stunning, I felt that it could have been made more authentic by if it had more Japanese actors and people speaking in Japanes; most of the actors in the film appeared to be Chinese (I guess a lot of people wouldn't pick up on that) and the film was in English.

It's difficult to relate the life of Sayuri/ Chiyo (Ziyi Zhang) ... Read More:

I have a problem with these 'dancing on air' martial arts films, a-la Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: they look daft. Once you've seen one guy on a wire you've seen them all. Once you've seen a guy stamping his feet forty feet up a bamboo tree you say `Oh, look, a bird'. The only place where these effects have ever seemed anything other than laughable is in The Matrix: because it isn't a real world environment. There you can make allowances. Hero has lots of stylish fighting, but if you can't take it seriously, what's the point? An exercise in futility.
Hero is additionally befuddled by the message it attempts to impart: totalitarian societies are okay because although they are born in bloodshed they lead to a united, peaceful society. ... Read More:

It is sad. Those beautiful landscapes are there, of course, the plot is fair enough, but this movie shows clearly that ain't enough to entertain you.

It is like a tv series production with a boost up for big screen purpose. Still not refined! The walls of the palace, the makeup, the expressions in those faces are so fake that they just don't let you get into the story, which scatters away all the magic of a rather good marketing idea.

My best advice, keep it tight with Hero and Tiger-Dragon, let this movie be forgotten.

Having watched Flying Daggers again a few weeks ago on DVD for the first time since switching over to HD, I found myself noticing how awful the picture looked so given that the film itself is excellent I though it would warrant upgrading to Blu. Given the quality of the other BD's in my collection I was disappointed by the transfer they've done on this title. It just doesn't look HD. It maybe an older title but given what the studios managed with, say The Shining, the same effort hasn't been put in here.

To someone who doesn't already own it on DVD, I totally recommend it but if you do already own it I'll say don't bother with the upgrade unfortunately.

I watched this for the first time recently and couldnt understand why it was so popular, i found this film utterly boring and very stupid for e.g the flying and stupid jumps, for me its very unrealistic as in the fight scenes two people throwing swords at other full pelt and no blood no one hurt no nothing, but the only reason it got 2 stars rather than 1 is because of the way its filmed, apart from that found it very very boring.

I you like a mix of old style tragedy with an oriental approach made of gorgeous images, martial art "fly" and a ruthless ending, is a good movie. A good cast, good soundtrack, very good action scenes. What else ?

A beautifully filmed story of exquisite tenderness.

Starting off in black and white, a student comes home to his grieving, aged mother and to bury his father who has died outside the village in which he was the teacher. The mother wants to have the body carried home although the son and the mayor of the village prefer to have the body brought in a vehicle. The story then moves into the past and transitions into colour showing how the mother, as a young and extraordinarily pretty but shy 18 year old girl, meets the teacher on his first arrival in the village.

I guess you would call it love at first sight, as she contrives to be close to him, walking past the school each day, standing by the road as he walks home, taking water from a well overlooking ... Read More:

James Carter comes to Hong Kong for a holiday with Inspector Lee. However at the same time a bomber is striking key American targets. Carter and Lee get drawn into an investigation into a counterfeiting ring run by Ricky Tan and his new partner Hu Li. Before long their up to their necks in trouble again.

The story doesn't matter because basically it's this - Carter talks funny to somebody while Lee is distracted, it then all kicks off and Lee does lots of fancy moves, it then moves to a different location and the pattern repeats again. Essentially that's it - but it doesn't matter, it worked the first time and it works again here. The story is better than the first film's, although the twists don't work as well as they think they do.

The main improvement ... Read More:

I think this is probably the best representation of the TMNT on the big or small screens. It's certainly the closest to the comics.

A warrior from Central America gained immortality 3,000 years ago, and his generals were turned to stone. 13 monsters were released into the world and created carnage. Fast forward to now, and the portal from which the warrior gained his immortality is going to open again and he's gathering the monsters. Meanwhile the Turtles have grown up a little. Leo is in Central America to learn how to be a good leader, Mikey's got an entertainment business, Donatello works in IT support and Raph is, well, Raph. Meanwhile April and Casey have an antiques business and the Foot Clan, sans Shredder, is selling their services to the highest bidder. ... Read More:

2046 is a film directed by the internationally renowned Wong Kar Wai. It loosely follows the prequels, Days Of Being Wild and In The Mood For Love. It first aired in 2004 and is based in Hong Kong (but is actually filmed in the fashion capital of China-Shanghai), and has an award-winning cast of Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Cheung, Faye Wong, Carina Lau and other famous actors.

This beautiful art piece is a classic Hong Kong film and a complete success at the hands of ever-skilful Wong Kar Wai and his team. Wong Kar Wai was one of the first directors in Hong Kong who did not give the audience a straightforward story, but challenged the way the audience thought about people in one of his first films, Days Of Being Wild. 2046 runs along the same theme, with the characters ...
