A cast of characters that Dickens would envy; a host of children hurling invective and abuse like veteran food critics; the intrepid hero and his army of kitchen "girls" out to civilize the world - documentaries don't get better than this. Priceless one-liners; strong personalities that Hollywood actors will never capture; anger, frustration, tears and enough emotion to flood all of London - you get much more than you bargain for in this four-part series. And quite a bargain it is: the price is so low I think someone made an accounting error. One of countless choice moments: Bill Clinton's party having changed at the last minute an exquisite set menu arranged weeks in advance, Jamie couldn't be bothered when word came that Mr. Clinton wished ... J-O as I call him, what is there to say that hasn't already been said a hundred times for better or worse? Not a great deal, however as one of the big two, Ramsay being the other, Jamie & his team got this series spot on, yes there was clever editing & selfless promoting of himself and frankly that no surprise.

The best part of JK is journey that you see Jamie & his budding trainees go on, "worts 'n' all, from the original selection, to the micking taking developers, to family life & to the reality of opening 15. The series is charming, as is Jamie, but brutally honest at times and whilst it does have a good conclusion for many. By the end of it, & is not a criticism, you can't help thinking that it failed the ones that ... Read More:

The saddest thing about the rise of this fantastic young chef is that the Pukka Tukka and Naked Chef episodes on DVD aren't available in the US! There are a couple available, but the Pukka Tukka series in particular was outstanding. Anyone who is mystified with a utensil more complicated than a kitchen whisk will find confidence previously unknown in watching these programs - not just a list of ingredients or written directions, but the ability to observe such simplistic methods yielding such spectacular results. Bravo Jamie!

Top geezer, wicked, sorted. Whether you like him as a person or not, there is no denying that the boy can cook. This dvd is fantastic, all the recipes are simply and easy to make and has the good feature of "Select a dish" where you can access each recipe straight away. I have loved every series so far and hope there will be many more to come. Long live the naked chef!

I can only imagine that Jamie Oliver wrote the script for this himself. Provided you dont get irritated by the continual "take the old saucepan and chuck in the old wine and give it a stir with yer old wooden spoon etc etc" this is ok.

I bought it as it was so cheap. There are a couple of decent recipes and a couple of reasonable hints. Overall I was disappointed with this as it failed to meet my expectations being overly simplistic and (have I mentioned this already) having a very annoying presentation style.

Overall worth it for under a fiver but only just!

I was very surprised at this DVD. I had some reservations about how good a chef, who's just got used to the TV camera, could be on the stage. Well, the answer is: fantastic. Jamie Oliver controls the laughter & applause well, has tremendous stage presence & uses plenty of audience participation to create a very entertaining show. This is one you will find yourself watching again & again. Well done Jamie!

DVD : Poirot - Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd [2000]
Hercule Poirot is one of the most famous detectives in literary history. Yet, strangely, except for his portrayal by Albert Finney in the star-studded movie version of "Murder on the Orient Express," for a long time, there did not seem to be an actor who could convincingly bring to life the clever, dignified little Belgian with his unmistakable egg-shaped head, always perched a little on one side, his stiff, military, slightly upward-twisted moustache, and his excessively neat attire, which had reached the point that "a speck of dust would have caused him more pain than a bullet," as Agatha Christie introduced him through his friend Captain Hastings's voice in their and her own very first adventure, "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" (1920). But leave it to ... Read More:
