My wife bought me this for my birthday. We had seen KD on a recent BBC4 session and were mesmerised by her performance. This DVD enhances that impression through her incredible voice and her wonderful sense of humour too. Fortunately this DVD does not have the usual interruptions that some of the other Live By Request offerings include. An absolute must of you like KD to any degree.

DVD : The Last Don ( Mario Puzo's The Last Don )
I read the book and thought it was brilliantly written, one gripe was that the Don was like a poet constantly coming up with sayings. Apart from that the book had everything. I was a bit worried about watching this but i can safely say that the film has done the book justice.

I need to write seperatley about the acting in the film as it was magnificent particulary Joe Mantega and Jason Gedrick, both playing lead roles very well. Don Clericuzio played by Danny Aiello whose performance although very good, i felt someone else could have played the part better. His daughter Rosemary is played by two people one at a young age and one when she goes crazy. When she goes crazy shes played by Kirstie Alley from look whos talking. Theres ... Read More:

Some rather embarressing early clips of kd, but the video shows her career over seven years and how her wonderful voice has developed and her style changed. Especially great is a clip with the late Roy Orbison. Well, well, worth buying.

Eye Of The Beholder is a film I chanced across a couple of years ago in a Global video store.

After watching it the first time I rented it another 3 times before finally buying the rental version form the store!

Starring Ashley Judd and Ewan Macgregor, this is a tale of obsession, irrational obsession, of loss and love. It's a story of people, of scars, of life and survival. It's one of the most amazing films I've ever seen. Not just because of the grade A acting and direction, but also as a technical achievenment.

If you're an admirer of David Fincher's elaborate camera pans and trickery, you might also like to watch this, even as a purely technical film it's remarkable. The fades, editing and camerawork is utterly ... Read More:

DVD : Roy Orbison: Black & White Night [1987]
The only compilation among a gazillion to span Orbison's Sun, Monument, MGM, and Virgin successes is a welcome add to the Essential series that now, post-merger, features RCA & Arista artists as well as Sony's. Roy Orbison is one of my absolute favorites. He simply may be the best rock 'n' roll singer ever.

Amazon really should update the track listing to reflect the few re-recorded versions. While the originals should be here, the remakes are a legitimate part of Mr. Orbison's career. Roy's popularity was at a deeply undeserved lull circa 1987, when David Lynch used some Roy songs in his classic/eerie film "Blue Velvet." In the wake of renewed public interest, Roy released an LP of remakes called "In Dreams" (Virgin, 1987). It was very ... Read More:

Even though the movie itself was kind of hard to digest, performance by K.D. Lang was very good. Considering she hasn't had any acting experience prior to making this film, one cannot expect an Oscar-winning performance. Maybe she'll do better in future films? Personally I like her music very much, but who knows? If given a chance she might develop her acting skills. As far as I know this is her one and only attempt at acting.
