This DVD version is absolutely fantastic. I watch it all the time. Both Sally Hawkins and especially Rupert Percy Jones are wonderful in this production. I was caught up with Cpt. Wentworth's cold icy look which gradually turned softer as he realised his feelings for Anne were being revived. I especially loved when they meet in the shop during the rain, when he speaks of how a man cannot overcome such a passion to such a woman, he can barely look at her! The parts were played perfectly and although it differentiates from the book on many levels I adored every second of it. I loved the 1995 version but Cpt. Wentworth was not how I imagined - I much prefer the RPJ eye candy with his dulcet dones declaring his undying love for Anne Elliot.

Absolutely spot on writing. No moment is wasted. In the quiet moments you can hear the cogs turning in the heads of the characters.
Quite, quite brilliant.

I've long been interested in the history of capital punishment in this country and could hardly fail to know the name of Albert Pierrepoint. It was therefore inevitable that I was going to see this film sooner or later.

I write this review as someone who is opposed to capital punishment and in favour of life imprisonment. That may come as some surprise to readers, given some of the criticisms I'm going to level at this film.

I think this film is, very watchable and deeply fascinating. The problem I have with it is that it features real people and real events and in its race to convey an anti-capital punishment it twists facts and real events into what is sometimes a barely recognisable facsimile. Here are some of ... Read More:

Read More:

Excellent performances from the three central characters, good script & a slightly oddball theme make this a hugely entertaining piece of viewing.

It's more a short story with 3 main constituent parts but they all blend easily together to make the whole thing work smoothly.

One of Ray Winstone's best parts & one that he tackles with relish - the story of his relationship with his wife is hilarious & sad in equal parts as it unfolds.

Well worth the money & then some!

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

As I don't have a TV, and had never heard of this mini-series, I didn't know what to expect from The Second Coming and hired it purely on the strength of its plot synopsis, which sounded interesting.

Dear God! (Every pun intended.) If someone told me that this had been written by a class of thirteen year-olds who had been given the project of turning the second coming into a school play I wouldn't have been surprised.

Why, oh why did they decide to portray Jesus mark II as what amounted to an idiot savant? Is there anything in any of the gospels to suggest this? Okay, an ordinary bloke, but a Great Northern Moron. I don't think so.

Apparently all Jesus did to impress people was his miracles, because ... Read More:

Another great series - I do not think there is a bad one of 'Frost'. However, although the sound effects are almost kept under control in this set, it was the beginning of the unnecessary and almost infantile sounds behind certain scenes in this series. They really jar and interfere with the programme. It seems as if contemporary producers feel a compulsion to put in these sounds - it is almost as if they have a quota they must put in. I do wish the would not. It makes the scenes very corny. Hence the four and not five stars.

I bought this after seeing it on TV. Straight away I watched it again. Read the reviews, then buy it - it's not like it's going to break the bank! Well worth the watch as it is a touching drama with a great storyline!

A good film about a man whose daughter goes missing whilst living in Turkey. Ray Winstone does shine in this film and shows his real acting ability other then just being a tough guy. Recommended to fans of british gritty dramas.
