I rented this dvd on the strength of the reviews given alone, and very glad I did. I thought it was an absolutely fantastic adaptation and having not read the book or known anything about the story found myself captivated from start to finish. So good I have now ordered my own copy!

If you are looking for something to watch now that the autumn evenings are nearly upon us, then look no further. Although this series came out in the 90's it is one of the best crime dramas around. Miss Marple it isnt! It is a brutal and honest portrayal of a murder squad and Linda La Plante creates some real twists and turns along the way. Episode 2 has got one of the nastiest men I've ever watched.
Just fantastic acting - the 2 main leads are really good. This is excellent value for money - am definitely going to get the second lot of episodes.

Insp.North (Kate Buffery) was a totally credible charactrer as a police officer just like Jane Tennison. Unfortunately her replacement, Victoria Smurfit is quite beyond belief. She has no credibility whatsoever as a polce officer (in episodes 7 and above).

She spoils an outstanding series - Don't bother with the more recent short episodes..

Song For A Raggy Boy [2003]

I had heard about this film from a number of friends and colleagues. I remember seeing Aidan Quinn being interviewed about it on the Late Late show (RTE Television). I therefore had my preconceptions and thought that there would be nothing new here for a seasoned viewer of factually- based movies.

What I most admire about this film is that Aisling Walsh did not shy away from the horrific depiction and realism of the violence. Whilst not being sensationalist this is truly brutal and disturbing. Iain Glenn is well presented as the vengeful, sadistic and zealous Brother John, whilst Aidan Quinn gives a superb performance as a damaged man determined to do the right thing whilst battling his own demons. DVD : Joyriders
Joyriders is a unique love story set in contemporary Ireland.Mary, having been forced to abandon her home is rescued from the harrassment of two American sailors in an all night cafe by Perky Rice,an occasional joyrider who is not quite as cool as he would like to believe.Together they leave for a hotel on the coast where Mary spent her honeymoon.Slowly their fragile love blossoms.
Starring the wonderful Billie Whitelaw and including Patrick Kerrigan and Andrew Connolly this is strange but ultimately fulfilling story. It's quite hard to find but if you manage it,I think you'll find it worthwhile.

David and Theo have been best friends forever. Working class London lads, they do everything together. Then Theo meets Hannah and everything changes.

Steve John Shepherd gives an amazing performance as moody, charismatic David. When he's onscreen you just can't take your eyes off him. He conveys David's pain through looks and body language, increasingly uncomfortable in his skin. John Simm is convincing as the weedy Theo. The weak link is the absence of any chemistry between Theo & Hannah, which makes David & Theo's relationship a more believable prospect.

Hannah is such a pain I couldn't feel sympathetic. A previous lover was a two-timer, so now she thinks all men are the same. She sees David as a threat. Well, she's right ... Read More:
