this was a fantastic film. Totally moving and emotional and i loved the story. The constant referral to gorgeous food did make my mouth water constantly and i was also bowled over by the gorgeous love story that played out before my eyes. A lovely treat to watch and it made my love of foreign films even more overpowering!

This for sure falls into the 'feel good movie' category. It is a lovely romantic story. Not a story line to think too hard about but one to kick back and enjoy if this is your type of movie. At times it verges near 'cheesy' and Keanu Reeves is a bit wooden in places, but despite this it comes highly recommended.
It was really good to see Anthony Quinn as the role of the family patriarch. Good family film.

DVD : Picking Up The Pieces [2000]
This is without a doubt one of the worst films I have ever had to sit through. The plotline is non-existent, the acting is as wooden as it gets, the 'action' never arrives and it's a complete waste of film IMO.

Woody Allen should be thoroughly ashamed of himself for appearing in such weak and tepid nonsense. Sharon Stone is mercifully shown to be murdered and cut up within minutes of the film beginning so she gets to be away from this dire bilge. David Schwimmer is dreadful and totally unbelievable and Keifer Sutherland displays the type of acting that should only be found in B-Movies and low-budget flicks.

In short, this DVD is only good for either testing dvd players in-store or for use as a tea coaster if you run ... Read More:

This was one of my favourite John Grisham books. I think anybody who has read the book should enjoy the film as it sticks very closely to it.

I had very few gripes with the film. My main ones would be some poor acting including from the actor who played Hank (I mean hes not that bad but I just thought somebody else could have played him far more effectively), some places where the standard of directing dropped including when the Latcher boys attack Luke, and on occasion the voiceover seems a bit belaboured, and I felt at a couple of moments the music maybe wasn't the best choice.

However we have to remember this is a TV movie and definitely not something which was intended for academy awards. If it had been given the ... Read More:

DVD : The Magnificent Ambersons [2001] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Since the point of this version of "The Magnificent Ambersons" is to "restore" the scenes that were lost when the study cut the Orson Welles version from 148 to 88 minutes, it becomes impossible to judge it by a different standard in which we pretend this was the first time Booth Tarkington's Pulitzer Prize winning book was brought to the screen. Ironically, if the point is to emphasize those lost scenes, then viewers need to watch the 1942 version to help you recognize the scenes when they crop up; they mostly have to do with the way modern things like the automobile change the face of the town in which the Ambersons rule. Of course, most films suffer in comparison to the original Mercury Production.

This 2002 production is handsome ... Read More:
