After such a long wait for Series 2 of The Book Group to come onto DVD the magic moment has finally arrived. The Book Group has been one of the most original, wittiest and unforgettable black comedies to hit our screens in recent years. It's a pity that it hasn't attracted the same massive following like Sex and The City or Footballer's Wives.
American ex-pat Claire and her international group of readers have returned and this series has certainly proved to be more entertaining than the first series. I found Janice's love triangle with Rab and his Spanish boyfriend Anselmo highly amusing as well as Claire's rivalry with her sister Jean who comes to Scotland to visit her. It's interesting to see Kenny's developments as a character throughout ... Read More:

Although the previous reviewer has this release well-covered there are a few aspects of the collection that are worth mentioning in more detail. As a true 'Pethead' since the mid-1980s I have followed their single releases and accompanying videos with interest. The early releases were raw but somehow compelling and always managed to make the images fit the music perfectly. As the band became massive the videos became more sophisticated and were often little vignettes; far superior to the self-aggrandising and often pompous offerings of their chart rivals. Actors and directors of the calibre of Derek Jarman, Ian McKellan and Joss Ackland regularly appeared in or made the videos and Heart in particular is a superb mini-film that provides so much more ... This quirky series is a lot of fun. Intense, humourless, lonely Clare starts a book group which turns out to be an odd assortment of characters - three footballers' wives, a disabled ex-mountaineer, eccentric perpetual student Barney, a Glasgow 'wee bauchle' who is there only because of the football connection - an ill-assorted mix, but their interaction is most amusing and entertaining, particularly, for example, when 'The Little Engine Who Could' is chosen as book of the week. The series is fresh and original, with black humour, very witty writing and a sense of the absurd intermixed. It's well worth a look.

Festival is an excellent film, introducing a range of characters with depth, humour and a degree of darkness. From Joan Gerard (Daniella Nardini) as a jaded reporter, a great turn from Chris O'Dowd and a suitably shallow Stephen Mangan as comedian Sean O'Sullivan, we see all sides of the characters. Worth watching for the award ceremony alone.

The movie covers a lot of ground at a rapid pace and gives a valid representation of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe as it has become: more of a comedy festival for comedians craving celebrity than the wealth of artistic possibilities that it once was. This may be unpalatable for some, but this hard hitting film is both funny and unrelentingly on target. Highly recommended.

When the PSB's announced they were putting on a concert in a West End theatre, it raised a few eye-brows!

However, the boys delivered a show packed with hits, proved that they could do intimate venues as well as big arenas and everyone had a great time.

The DVD is nothing spectacular, but a record of a great night out and includes a mildy interesting documentary.

However, the highlight is the divine version of 'It's a Sin'.

Maybe when the boys do the next DVD they'll exploit the possibilties of DVD - after all they've pushed the limits with everything else they've done, so maybe its time to turn their attention to this format.
