What do you do with an FBI traitor who for 20 years was feeding serious secrets to the Soviets and then to Russia? If you're the FBI, you don't follow up on tips about the guy, you don't get curious that his expensive life style doesn't match his FBI salary, you ignore his extensive, private hetero kinkiness even though a murmur about homosexuality would get another person booted out the door, and you sure don't want to look too hard and then find a scandal on your hands like the CIA's Aldrich Ames.

It was in 1979, three years after he joined the FBI, that Robert Hanssen started his career as a spy. It wasn't until 1999 that it occurred to the FBI to look closely at Hanssen. At one point, concerned about the possibility of a mole ... Read More:

This one is a fascinating story, and what makes it even better is that it's based on events that actually happened. It's about a twenty-five year old reporter named Stephen Glass, who wrote for The New Republic news magazine and had an uncanny knack for coming up with vivid, memorable stories. Unfortunately, it turned out Glass's pieces were either partly or wholly fictional, and he went to great lengths (including concocting fake notes, voicemail messages, and websites) to justify his phony articles. The film chronicles his spectacular fall from grace as, slowly but surely, his deceptions crumble aroud him.

There are two things to recommend this one, the first of which is that it's one of those stories that you wouldn't believe if it ... Read More:

DVD : Breach [2007] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
An excellent espionage thriller, Breach tells the story of FBI agent Robert Hanssen, who passed secrets to the Russians for over 20 years. Chris Cooper is mesmerising as Hanssen; he portrays a man who is highly intelligent with a powerful personality, who presented a religiously puritanical persona to the world whilst being amoral in his private life. Unfortunately the film suffers when Cooper is not onscreen. Ryan Phillippe is the younger agent assigned to Hanssen's office, and the storyline involving his recent marriage and homelife is far less engaging. Laura Linney does provide excellent support as always though as the officer leading the investigation to find the mole. The film is directed by Billy Ray, and is paced slowly but well; the tension ... Read More:
