Fawlty Towers is (of course) as good as comedy gets and this package is a bargain. However completists may want to be patient. Rumour has it that John Cleese is preparing commentaries for all 12 episodes in preparation for an extra special re-release. I believe he needs the money to pay for his divorce!

Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are two phenomenally talented comedian/actors. I'd first seen them acting in various episodes of Blackadder. Then one Friday night early in 1989 I stumbled across their first full "Bit of Fry & Laurie" series. From that moment I've been a huge fan! There's a classic send-up of the OTT drama "Howard's Way", in which a Uttoxeter health-club is run as though it were a huge multi-national! There's hilarious, deliberate bad acting when Tony Merchison (Laurie) works for the Secret Service and reports to his incredibly naïve boss "Control" (Fry). Bottom is a classic series. The brilliance and crweativity of Rik and Ade is absolutely world class. This is a definate winner and would certaily bright up anybodys day

The very best of Dad's army is a specktacular DVD! Its the best Dad's army DVD/video available, and is truly amazing! It has all five brilliant classic episodes such as the Deadly attachment, asleep in the deep, sons of the sea etc. Some of these episdoes are my favourites, and they are defiently the best! I think the best episode is either the deadly attachment or asleep in the deep, my favourite is Asleep in the deep. The only episode I didn't like is never too old (the last ever episode)! i think it could of been a lot better, but it was still good! My favourite parts are when the platoon are trapped in the flooding room (asleep in the deep), or when the platton are hi-jacked by the Germans (the deadly attachment). So overall, all the ... yes, not the nine o'clock news is one of the best ever but why oh why do we have to have the "best of" - I loved NTNOCN and would like to see the whole series and not just the best of selected by the BBC...great comedy which even my kids enjoy (!!!which shows it isn't dated) - please please just release the lot!!!!!!!

You've got to love this show; it's just a shame the DVD's are edited and BBC don't seem to be bothered about releasing any more material. The BBC has released Red Dwarf, Blackadder etc on DVD in their entirety and un-edited but Not the Nine O'Clock News appears to have been overlooked. Extras and bonus features would be nice but BBC please, please, please give the show the respect it deserves and release the full series' and unedited.

Ahhh memories. I watched The Goodies as a child, & now it's wonderful to have the DVD. The comedy is sharp, original & hilarious. Graham, Tim & Bill really broke new ground back in the 70's, & now, after more than 30 years the humour is still great & for me it has stood the test of time. Just take the episode ''Tower of London''. I mean... tiny Beefeaters dissatified with eating corned beef. Genius !! For me, the more twisted & unexpected the ideas, the better !! All 8 episodes here are BRILLIANT. I recommend this to anyone who remembers the Seventies & likes wacky humour. Absolutely wonderful.

Yes, unbelievably, with an archive which would be the envy of commercial TV stations throughout the world, the BBC manages to dig into theirs and produce an extremely mediocre compilation. Why would a compilation with this title omit their best movie parodies (Exorcist, Whatever Happened to Baby Dawn, The Sound of Music etc) yet include lots of sketches which are not remotely connected with the movies? I am a strong supporter of the BBC ethic and its method of funding - but some of their efforts on the commercial front show a distinct lack of sense. Instead of funding new series of F&S - which ceased to be funny some time ago - they could exploit the back catalogue to the benefit of those who remember their peak years, and fund more innovative new programming ... I love the spice girls and was thrilled to see that they were going on tour again, so to get in the 'mood' of spice girl fever i thought i'd watch this with my sister... well after 10 mins i was falling asleep, but i stuck it out, and believe me it is one of the worst films ever! Although, i went to see the spice girls live at the o2 and they were amazing!!!

Since watching the Young Ones I have always been fan of Rik and Eddie, and was happy to see them in Bottom. This program is still very funny after all these years and I now own all three series. Just wanted to mention that there is a slight edit on the episode Apocalypse whereby Richie says "Dirty Thievin' Yobbos". The actual line and the word used on the chapter point on the DVD is "Dirty Thievin' Gyppos". It is noticeable, but only if you look carefully without knowing or are aware of it beforehand. This is not the point though I know this may offend people but this should be left in the program to keep it intact. There are a lot worse things in the world.
