DVD : Screaming Dead [2003] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Screaming Dead is the first film release from Shock-O-Rama Cinema, the fresh, newly-relaunched horror-focused offshoot of ei Independent Cinema (most famous for its Seduction Cinema line of films). Anticipation and expectations were high among those of us in the know, namely the legions of Misty Mundae fans. The emphasis here is on the horror aspects of the film and not the erotic elements which have fueled ei's rise to prominence as an independent film company. One of the greatest things about this film is its potential to introduce more mainstream horror fans to the work of ei Independent Cinema; more importantly, it will introduce a new set of fans to the glory that is Misty Mundae. With her girl-next-door image, unquantifiable charm, ... Read More:

DVD : Bite Me! [1998] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
As a long-time fan of ei Independent Cinema, I can't help but be impressed by the production value of its recent releases, particularly those from the newly-reinvigorated Shock-O-Rama Cinema. I'm not saying the cinematography and special effects of Bite Me are incredibly good, but they are worlds better than those of earlier films from these guys. This is an indie film, with all that implies as to budget, story, special effects, etc. Don't expect to see Spielberg or a cast of accomplished, method actors here. Bite Me is not intended to be anything more than a modern-day monster movie along the lines of all the great, dumb classics of the 50s and 60s. Its only purpose is to entertain and, of course, to scintillate - and no one does ... Read More:

Regrouping and attempting to find shelter, they come across an abandoned house in the middle of the desert. The owner of the house, Moses Cobb, (James Aspden) thinks them trespassers until they prove otherwise, and returning to his house, he shows them a gigantic spider that he claims was once alive. It's got everything - a dead mother, an abusive father, a troubled teen. Long, pointless slow motion bits, seemingly entirely at random (possibly to make the film longer? Or is that too sceptic a view?); dreadful insults; a drain based demon which reveals itself as a green goo accompanied by approproate goo noises.
With drainiac it's hard to say whether the whole thing is ironic, or merely poor. I suspect the latter. However, I have got more joy out of watching it than any good or impressively made/scripted film. A certain winner in any 'I've seen the worst film ever made' competition. Buy it, bet your friends that they've never seen anything so hilariously poor and win your money back!
