Such a shame this great series is blighted by edits. Take the episode Chrissie for example, only 51 minutes on this DVD, nearly 8 mins short of the originaly shown series on the Beeb. I will still buy the rest of the series, but they will always be short of the magic 5 stars if they are edited too.

This set of ten installments appears to be the collected Vol.1 through 10 that are also available individually. "The Chelsea Murders" is released on two disks, which explains the eleven disks in this set.

"The Chelsea Murders" was not broadcast originally, so it's inclusion here is welcome. However there are two other installments listed on IMDB that do not appear to be included despite the set's label as "Complete". These are "High Tide" and "Dead Man's Kit".

Anyone know why are these not being released?

This is one of my fondest memories from my childhood!
Been able to stay up late on a Monday night. Just two things; first no series 2, & I can't get the theme on CD!

Six hours of musical theatre that paved the way for The Singing Detective, but otherwise had little influence on the way television uses music. Rock Follies' songs were story material and story commentary, delivered in the narrative reality or as fantasy asides. The theme -- the fortunes of a three-girl rock group -- was particularly suited to such an imaginative role for music in drama, but it's surprising that no other musical serials have taken the form further. Rock Follies blazed a dead-end trail ... but what a trail!

At the heart: the lyrics and script of Howard Shuman, a witty American playwright. The story arcs of the two Rock Follies series have predictable doses of cynicism about the music business, but Shuman sweetened these ... Read More:

The second series of Rock Follies charts the Little Ladies' progress from near-collapse to disintegration. It isn't an uninterrupted downhill slide: there are ups (edged with irony) and downs (usually with some humour or a good song). As in the first series the story is told through straight drama and the Little Ladies' songs, some sung as performances, some as fantasy.

Things start optimistically when the group embrace the spin of a "ferret-faced reporter": "Even we believed the lie - We're the band who wouldn't die". They go on tour with Stevie Streeter (Tim Curry - excellent), then make a management deal with Kitty Schreiber (Beth Porter in a funny caricature) that leads to a record, press junkets and more touring, this time with a Punk band. ... I echo the comments of the other reviewers. I too had fond recollections of this series, and was excited to see it available on DVD. And it is in many ways excellent. The depth of characterisation and quality of dialogue is in many places really compelling and top-notch. Real quality and class. The sets and costumes are generally equally good.
The downsides - well, firstly, there is no getting over the fact that production values in general (and presumably TV film technology) have now moved on so much that it is almost impossible to believe that this TV drama was made 5 years after Star Wars. The picture quality - despite claimed digital remastering - is undeniably poor: fuzzy and washed out. I can't believe TV looked as ropey as this in the early 1980's ... Read More:

Dangerfield was an excellent series which has lost none of its freshness despite being over a decade old. All series were interesting, multi-layered, due to the blending of medical issues and crime, and very enjoyable as well. Series 2 was almost certainly the best with it's hard-hitting story lines and excellent acting, but the entire series is well worth watching more than once.
The question is, now that the BBC has finally decided to release Series 1 and 2, is there a chance that all series, (there were 6 in all, with Nigel Havers taking over from the very talented Nigel Le Valliant in the later series) will be released as well - and soon as there are no new episodes to come.It is not very encouraging for buyers when they do not get the opportunity to ...
