If an Australian seller hadn't misrepresented their Crosby,Stills, and Nash DVDs as Region 1, when in actuality they were Region 2s, I never would have invested in a Regions-free player, and began broadening my horizons, thereby finding this GEM to be not only out-of-print at home, but only available in Blu Ray ! We've never had a 2 disc edition that I'm aware of, and when this one arrived (QUICKLY I might add), my son and I devoured it ! Nearly,or just over 2 hours of extras is a real treat, on top of the crystal clear, vivid widescreen print of the film itself. Thank you AmazonUK.

It's one way or the other.
The movie had a really good director but a not so common plot for a Superhero movie. Oh it has a few great action scenes and a bit of blood spilling yet it's not all about saving the world or chasing a villain and that what makes it different. It has a modern element when it comes to Superman's romantic involvement as Lois Lane stands up for once and rips that dazzling smile off his face. At the same time the subtext works its magic if you know where or what to spot (Just watch the first two Superman movies) during the film. It's a movie that it worths your time (and money) but be prepared to see a whole new side of what makes Superman a man.

After almost 20 years of absence take a chance and fly ... Read More:

The special effects are good. The characters are simple and varied enough to make us like that universe of monstrous mutants that look just like us but can turn into whatever they want. Welcome to Carrie, Christine, Firestarter, the Tommyknockers and many other Stephen King paranormal beings and situations. Of course, this film adds to that berserk universe a good old American wrapping but with a twist. The statue of liberty standing on its nice little island as the symbol of what it is called after and yet looking like a stiletto stabbing the sky and jutting out of a flat no man's seascape. The twist is in the fact that it is this very statue that is going to be the epicenter of the destruction of all the heads of states assembled at the United ... Read More:

This only just merits 3 stars. At 2.5 hours it really is far too long, and loses a star for that. It loses another star for the frequent and painfully obvious use of CGI and if I was being unkind it would lose more for its over sentimental and sugary styling. How much music with heavenily choirs and strings are we expected to take?

I wasn't especially impressed by Brandon Routh, who was clearly copying the Christopher Reeve formula but he was wooden by comparison. The best by far was Kevin Spacey, but he wasn't given a lot to do. The films I've seen that have been directed by Bryan Singer have in general been very good, for me this is his first failure.

By all means buy it, if you can get it very cheap, but its not worth spending ... Read More:

This second opus is bringing the war inside the human camp because one military scientist who had had the chance, though not to his taste, of having a mutant son and who had manipulated him so much that he had managed to take complete control of him, is provoking, or at least trying to, an open war of total destruction against the mutants. This time bad and good mutants unite to defeat that man though the bad mutants take over the game of the bad human and redirect the weapon from total destruction of mutants to total destruction of human beings. This drastic situation is saved in due time and just in time by the good mutants though the bad ones manage to escape and the good ones must sacrifice one of themselves to assure the escape. That will be essential ... Read More:

The visuals on the first film are breath-taking. We first meet the famous Wolverine at a bar cage-fighting, being carefully watched by a teenage runaway, Rogue. Under the hard-core image of Wolverine, their appears to be a soft side to him when he is with Rogue. When the villan Magneto, who turns into an aly in the second film, kidnaps Rogue, Wolverine, Xavier and the team go out to look for her. If your a fan of Rogue or turn into one, at the end you get a scare. All-in-all, this movie is really good. With the movie's success the well-known actors, such as child-star Anna Paquin, Aussie Hugh Jackman, the beautiful Halle Berry and Star-Trek's Patrick Stuart, in this will have a long career ahead of them.

X Men United (X2)surpassed the first one. ... Read More:

I bought my set from Direct Offers for 2.21 plus 1.24 postage via Amazon marketplace - it arrived shrink-wrapped.

So I've already seen X-men 1-3 at the cinema and looking forward to seeing them again. All watchable.

Just watched Fantastic 4 and it was a fun movie - not exactly challenging, but keeps going at a nice pace. Fun stuff.

My only reservation on buying this boxset was that I had read reviews saying that the director's cut of Daredevil is so much better than the original version - then when I open this set I find that it is the director's cut that has been included.

So, haven't watched this or Elektra yet, but already feel like I've got my money's worth and much more.

After such a long time away from the big screen and with no Christopher Reeve there was a chance this could have been a big disappointment- no chance! Every thing about the movie is good, the action scenes are as you would expect and demand from a Superman movie and the effects are fantastic. The script is also intelligent and in much the same style as the original movie, which means you are engaged throughout.

I can't understand the reviewers who have criticised the acting, Brandon Routh does a magnificent job as Kent/Superman and has perfected Christopher Reeve's mannerisms so well that it's scary. Kevin Spacey is good as Lex Luther but admittedly doesn't have quite the same presence as Gene Hackman, and Kate Bosworth slips comfortably into the ... Read More:

I have not read the book so cannot compare this to the text; however, as a stand alone film it works very well. Brad Renfro is very convincing as a teenager who is both attracted and repelled by Ian Mckellan's character's past.

What I liked about the film was that it was not delivered as a moral tale; it was more a study on obsession and what evil means. The ending was very unsettling and stayed with me. Also, whilst it talked about the holocaust it did so through the character's conversations and brief photos which made it all the more disturbing without being voyeuristic or fetishistic.

I'm glad I didn't see the US trailer before seeing the film and would recommend avoiding it if it comes on your DVD as it totally gives the whole ... Read More:

A lot of people I know who saw the film were disappointed by it: "there's no action!" "he didn't use his powers" etc. The problem is people wanted a film based on the comics, where you have OTT villians and most of the film being a free for all.

I didn't have any expectations when I first saw the film, and therefore any opinion was based solely on what was presented. The first reaction is this is visually stunning! The essential way of gaining appreciation for this film is to watch it on blue ray. The picture quality is absolutely crystal clear.

Brandon Routh is Superman! There's so much pressure on him being his first film, and as Clark and particularly Superman, he was awesome. The rest of the cast, especially Kevin Spacy were also great. This ... Read More:
